US Passport renewal timelines

I am currently waiting for my UK citizenship to be approved, but as it turns out, my US passport expires in July. While I know it could take up to six months for me to hear about my UK citizenship (which would be June), I don't want to wait until the last minute to renew my US passport. However, I am reluctant to send off my US passport now, just in case it's needed for my UK citizenship application. (When I went for my biometrics in December, the person made this recommendation as well.)

My question is for anyone who has had to renew a US passport recently - how long did it take? I saw one person here waited five weeks, which is well beyond the standard 14 day processing time. Does anyone else have experience with this?

Mine took 5 weeks. I’ve seen one other and his took 10 days. Renewal processing times just now are around 3-4 weeks according to the US Embassy.

On the renewal application you can specify when you are travelling and would need the passport.  I did that and got mine back in something like 10 days.
