This is fantastic news! I am so thrilled you guys are going in the home stretch at last. I think the three of us will all be having our ceremonies within a week of each other.
Fantastic! How odd we're all actually going to end up with about the same date after all that :)

So glad we are all going to be finished at the same time.. Now to read up on application for the passport.

I already started investigating it and was wondering if anyone had applied for a UK passport recently. The site says to allow 10 weeks for a first passport, I think, but I was curious if that was accurate during the pandemic.

A new citizen on another forum had their new passport within 4 weeks!!! That was last month. So I am hoping it will be a quick painless process as we can’t leave the country without the passport!

That would be great....I feel a bit weird about having to part with both of my US passports (expired and valid) while my UK passport is being issued, but I think those are the rules.

Yeh its will be odd to have to be without any ID or a BRP so we are hoping it wont take too long.

Taking a little look at the form there are a few things that seem odd, too - supplying parent details (ostensibly to check the claim to British nationality) when you're also supplying the naturalisation certificate. I suppose you fill them out and presumably the passport office ignore them!

Is it wiser to do the paper form, apply for it online, or does it not matter one bit?

We had the virtual citizenship ceremony today - all done and dusted in under fifteen minutes. The registrar was absolutely lovely, and very helpful too.

So, we are officially British! :)

Mrs. Biscuits says thank-you for all the help along the way, and I am sure we won't be strangers (starting probably first with the passport application)!

Congratulations and happy days to you and Mrs. Biscuits! I'm so glad it was a pleasant experience - and quick too.

I am trying to memorize my various oaths (even though I don't think it's required). I can't remember the last time I had to memorize anything to say it out loud. Maybe in 12th grade (a soliloquy from Macbeth)?

Oh gosh, well good luck with that :) the registrar read each line out for us to repeat back, so we didn't need to remember anything!

Thanks! I'm sorry that you'll have to wait outside :( as we were virtual it was pretty easy just to be there, so it seems like a sort of blessing in disguise really. Still, I think he'll enjoy it being in person too - there's of course some of the natural grandeur lost with it over a video call. I'll be really interested to hear how it all went :) and, I hope he will enjoy it! (We are right now, we popped open the sparkling a couple of hours ago!)

I'm very excited for you both--I hope you plan to celebrate too.

It sucks that you can't join in the ceremony though. Goes to show how inconsistent this whole thing is. I am permitted to bring one guest to my in-person ceremony on Monday.

Well it’s official!!! My husband in now a UK Citizen….  He attended his ceremony this morning, he had to be there at 10:45am for the ceremony to start at 11:00am. Once he cleared security he had his paperwork checked and was shown to his seat.  At 11:00am the ceremony started with introductions and a brief history of the ancient county of Angus and our place in the history of Scotland and UK. Then it was on to the oath there was two options one oath that included the word God and one that did not.  Everyone was given a card with the words on it but were asked to repeat after the presiding officer, so no one had to speak on their own. After the Oath the presiding officer then talked about the importance of citizenship and how it is a special thing.  They were then allowed to take photos and the ceremony was done.. All in all he was finished by 11:30am.  We then went to a family lunch at a local hotel to celebrate..

He was not asked for his BRP card so I am going to have to search for info on where we return it to.  We are moving into our own home next week so its going to be  a very stressful week! Once we are unpacked we will apply for a passport.. STAB US WITH A FORK WE ARE DONE!!!!!!!
