We are going up to Dumfries next weekend for a week.  What is there to do?

Tami will know, I don't think there's an inch of Scotland she hasn't explored.   :)

I have a cousin there, you could pop in and see him. He's on the eccentric side so I'm sure he'd keep you entertained!  ;)  ;D

Mull of Galloway shouldn't be missed. The lighthouse is amazing.

Will you be in the town of Dumfries or the council area of Dumfries and Galloway?

I've only been to the town of Dumfries, and don't recall there being much going on there.  We did a pub crawl, and that's about it.
It kind of felt like the place was about 10 years behind.

In the town of Dumfries.  Yes, the lighhouse is on the list.

Make sure you go to the Lockerbie Memorial then. It is a must for any American visiting Scotland.

Hadn't thought of that one.  I'll do a bit of research

Mmm, went there for work once to visit a supplier.   Had an epic night out at an Italian restaurant and pub and had the worst hangover when trying to work the next day.  Except that company did try and offer me a job, even with a raging hangover. Must have been okay.  Don't think there was much else going on around there.  ;D

Does seem like a nice area with a lot of walks and cycling.
I've never gotten food on my underpants!

We lived in Dumfries for 18 months with work between 1985 and 86 so my information is way out of date, but we loved taking visitors to Caerlaverock Castle https://www.historicenvironment.scot/visit-a-place/places/caerlaverock-castle/, and to Threave garden and estate https://www.nts.org.uk/visit/places/threave-garden.

We were with my parents and our small children in Threave in 1986 and got caught in a downpour which turned out to be a few days after Chernobyl exploded and it was the peak time for radioactive rain in SW Scotland.

There was a pub I used to frequent with some work mates and the first time we went I was told we were going because they served single malt in 1/4 gill measures (as opposed to a 1/5 gill elsewhere in Dumfries and 1/6 gill in England). However I was told the pub was a bit rough, and the only way to tell the difference between the men and women was that the women took the cigarette out of their mouth before spitting.

We enjoyed our time in Dumfries, made some good friends and had great neighbours, the only complaint was that it rained a LOT while we lived there.

That I 100% believe.

I have a shed in The Ochils I could let out at this point and could probably have it fully booked.
