First UK passport
« on: June 16, 2021, 03:29:46 PM »
I know there are a few of us who are either just getting ready to submit (or have recently submitted) our first UK passport applications. I was just wondering if anyone has done this in the past six months or so, and if so, what was the wait time to get back your original documents and your new UK passport?

The government site is saying to expect a 10 week turnaround time, but I spoke with an official on Monday (14 June) who said they are processing them in three or four weeks.

I'm not making any travel plans in the immediate future (like that is even practical these days  ::)), but I'm just curious as to what kind of wait times have been experienced here.

My daughter applied for hers and got it back in a few weeks.  Can't say exactly how long because I wasn't paying attention and she's an ornery teenager who can't be arsed.  Certainly wasn't 10 weeks though, more like 4.  And this was within the last few months.

Received an email notification today (a Sunday?!) from HM Passport Office stating that my application has been approved and that it is being printed. The email says they will let me know when it is on its way. That's 10 days from confirmation of receipt, I believe.

Delivered! Note: THEY DID NOT RING OR KNOCK at the door. They just slipped it through the mail slot.

Now I will send back my BRP, since I no longer need it.

This is completely awesome :D I'm hoping ours comes back soon! Oh, definitely keep us posted about those other documents too. Ten days for us will be ... end of this week-ish?

I was quite impressed. It was two weeks for me. Let's hope it's the same, if not sooner, for you.

Still waiting for the documents back, but TNT dropped off the passport today at lunchtime after the notification at the end of last week!

So:
  • Application in on 15th June
  • Confirmation of identity by our friend on 17th June
  • Supporting documents posted on 18th June
  • Arrived on the 21st June (special delivery, Monday arrival)
  • Approved, printed and posted on the 5th July
  • Passport delivered to our hands by TNT on the 6th July

That's about two and a half weeks, depending on when you count it from :)
