Citizenship
« on: July 15, 2021, 01:08:28 PM »
Hi all,

The last chapter is starting to begin for us - we are applying for citizenship! We have savings, prices are only going to go up, and in case something happens we have citizenship so we're going for it.

Now, I've searched and been through lots of threads but nothing concise (maybe it's my poor reading).

What evidence do we need for citizenship?

- ILR card
- USC Passport copies
- UKC passport copies
- Life in the UK test results
- Referee (family)
- Referee (professional)

Have I missed anything? In what form is the evidence submitted? Is it Sopra Steria type of arrangement still? Are there biometrics (again)? Is it an in-person appointment?

Also, along with quite a few people it seems, we are struggling for the professional referees. Any advice or examples we could draw inspiration from would be great. We have at least 3 people we could use but they're all family annoyingly.

We were in America for 4th of July three years ago so I'm under the assumption not to apply until I definitely know we were on UK soil?

Any help or advice would be truly appreciated!

You must have been present in the UK three years prior to the day of application, so yes, you want to ensure you'll tick that box.

For referee, practically anyone can sign.  You work don't you?  Have an accountant at work?  I've signed for many people.   ;D  Basically anyone who holds any professional qualification is "good to go".

‘Acceptable professional persons’ means:

accountant
airline pilot
articled clerk of a limited company
assurance agent of recognised company
bank or building society official
barrister
British Computer Society (BCS) - professional grades which are Associate (AMBCS), Member (MBCS), Fellow (FBCS) (PN 25/2003)
broker
chairman or director of limited company
chemist
chiropodist
Christian science practitioner
commissioner for oaths
councillor: local or county
civil servant (permanent)
dentist
designated premises supervisors
director or Manager of a VAT registered charity
director, manager or personnel officer of a VAT registered company
driving instructor (approved)
engineer (with professional qualifications)
fire service official
funeral director
insurance agent (full time) of a recognised company
journalist
justice of the Peace
legal secretary (members and fellows of the Institute of legal secretaries)
local government officer
manager or Personnel officer (of limited company)
member of Parliament
member of Her Majesty’s Armed Forces
Merchant Navy officer
minister of a recognised religion
nurse (RN, SEN or holder of a BA in nursing)

personal licensee holders
photographer (professional)
police officer
Post Office official
president or secretary of a recognised organisation

Ah that's better then. I thought it had to be with some sort of registered body, for some reason. That opens up a lot more options.

Would my friend who's Chief Commercial Officer of a small university count? Or my aunty who is a registered nurse? So she'll be 'aunty-in-law'. Is that detached enough?

You can't use family.

CCO of a registered body would be fine.

The aunt would be fine if she wasn’t your aunt.

Yeah he's not on board of directors though. I'm not sure how acceptable it'll be. Questioning it now.

Is that all the evidence required above? Is it in-person appointment?

In regards to how you apply, as far as I know, it’s the same process as applying FLR and ILR:

- apply online
- register with UKVCAS and book biometrics
- upload documents to UKVCAS
- attend biometrics
- wait for application to be processed

I've just noticed a referee could be "director, manager or personnel officer of a VAT registered company"

Could this literally be her boss?

If the boss is indeed in that category and isn't a relative, I don't see why not :)
