FLR(M) Approved - What now?
« on: August 04, 2021, 02:17:33 PM »
Hello everyone, it has been a while since I have been on here! I hope you are all keeping well.

My wife is looking to do her B1 English test and get it out of the way, she recently had her FLR(M) extension approved (1st extension)

On the new BRP Card, the valid till date is 23/06/2023 - should she not take her test a few months before the expiry or can she do this now? She entered the UK in December 2017.

I also want to confirm that this is the correct test she needs to take:

  • B1 SELT - GESE Grade 5 - English Test for British Citizenship - speaking and listening only.
The price of the test is £150.

What is confusing me is when her 5 years is up, does she need to do the B1 test AND LITUK?

At which stage do you need to do the LITUK exam and pass it? I know people tend to say to get it done ASAP but wanted to know when it actually is a requirement, at which stage of the route/extension.

Does anyone also have a checklist of what kind of evidence you need to provide?

Thank you!

Congratulations!!!

I can't help with the English requirement but the life in the UK test is a requirement for ILR and also for citizenship but obviously ILR comes first and you only need to pass it one time.

It never expires and it can be tricky, especially so for those for whom English is not their first language so we do  suggest to get it out of the way asap.

So in conjunction with the B1 test, she also needs to do her LITUK test too?

This answers my question. https://www.davidsonmorris.com/ilr-requirements/

You do need the B1 test AND LITUK for ILR. It looks like the wife has some prolonged studying to do! It's the LITUK test that will be the biggest test for her, she has taken the test a few times and failed it. I told her to give it up and just look after her health.

There's the official LITUK book available online that might help? Or, if you're located anywhere near Liverpool, you can have ours free of charge.

Thank you for the offer of the book, we already have one that she was using, she was also using the online material.

I just can't wait for all these tests/exams to be over and done with, it seems like a never-ending saga!

Thanks again.

No problem. Yes, it is very stressful. I really feel for the people going through it. But the relief once all done cannot be explained! End game in sight for motivation.

B1 won't be a problem for her, so I am going to book the test one month in advance, give her time to prepare for it and then after that make sure she is learning/studying LITUK on a daily basis and get that hopefully booked before the end of the year, the sooner it is out of the way, the better for us!

Yes, they are two separate requirements.

out of curiosity. there is an english language requirement for the FLR M application therefore, you mustve provided this evidence for her to attain a visa. could you not use the same evidence for ILR rather than doing a GESE english test?

She did the A1 test for FLR(M) - You cannot use that for ILR.

You need a B1 and LITUK.

UPDATE: My wife passed her B1 test that she took yesterday.

Note: This is only your provisional result. Once we have approved your result, within 4-7 days after your test date, you will receive another email to confirm your final result. GESE certificates are usually sent within 7 days after the test date.

What is the final result email? The one that I got saying I've passed, isn't that the final email? Does anyone know what the final result email looks like?

I just hope they don't end up changing the result.

1 down, 1 to go (LITUK)

It's just as it reads, this is a provisional result and you'll receive the final result soon.

Do we know what the content of the email is?

I'm super happy for the wife, she did well! 4-6 weeks of self learning and she did it.

I'd try asking on immigrationboards, they have far more experience of the language requirement than we do here.

Fingers crossed the final result is a pass.  :)
