Just checked it...all US taught Masters degrees are 0 points!! I have checked many reputable institutions, but everything is zero??? how is this possible that NOT a single one is equivalent to British Taught masters?? Roll Eyes Huh Only research based degrees from US are eligible (which are offered in very few schools/disciplines)

You've just been caught out by all the changes that the Tier 1 visa underwent TODAY! see this thread: http://talk.uk-yankee.com/index.php?topic=51332.0 Effective day is actually 31 March 2009 not April 1.

This doesn't apply to me since I don't have a masters, but how do people who have masters degrees know which one they have?  Huh

I already applied and my application was delivered in the LA consulate on 27th March. I hope that I will be considered under the pre-april 1st rule, REALLY HOPE SO, otherwise like a lot of fellow Americans, I am really screwed! But I find it really ridiculous that they are not accepting ANY taught masters degree from US. not even Stanford, Harvard etc.  This is insane!

If you applied under the old rules your application is looked at under the old rules.  At least the last I heard.   Wink

I just looked up a taught Masters (NOT continuing from undergrad) for a 2 year Arts/Humanities program and it gave me 35 points!

I just re-did that experiment and got 0. Maybe I did it wrong the first time. Sad Sorry for the false alarm. Sad

As of today ALL taught US master's degrees are worth 0 points, regardless of the school. The only exception that I remember seeing here was that a taught master's with further specialization (which I suppose is a master's in the same subject as your bachelor's) was worth 35 points on the old calculator, so it might still be worth 35 on the new one. All UK master's degrees and US research master's degrees are worth 35 points. This was a change TODAY and if you completed your biometrics before today (and possibly you also must have mailed it before today? Can someone clarify that?) your application is considered under the old rule.

Edit: Yes, a taught master's with further specialization from your bachelor's degree is still worth 35 points, according to the calculator.

But isn't this ridiculous? I mean shouldn't something should be done about it? like writing to the HO or something?

I read this thread and fired up the calculator to see what was going on.  I put in my stuff from GW and got 35 points (MBA), then I tried to put in my stuff from Heidelberg and Cambridge and I got 0.  Huh?  What's that about?  Weird.  I think it might be because I answered the first questions as American and that got it confused about what schools were available.

Otherwise the program doesn't make sense.  Did they screw up the program over the rules change?  Would someone please check?
