I feel so much better now about how I handled my wedding lol. Everyone kept saying i have to do the flowers and the garder tosses and had to have food and a cake and me really I didn't give a hoot about any of it as long as my DH and I stood up in from of someone ordined with the family and friends watching and we said I Do's. lol I did let a few ppl get their way. One gal ordered food trays and a cake and my boss insisted 'as a wedding pressie' to make the bouquet(s) everyone could not believe it when i said my dress was black but ;-p it is my day i wear what I want and it was cheaper as it was one less thing I had to buy. Luckly my mother was Brill and never said a word but do what you want how you want and even did my hair for me when the other mate who was supposed to do it did a no show. Another friend actually went online the day before and got ordained (the guy who was supposed to do it got put in hospital the week before and the back up was out of town)so that was something very special. and everyone raved when they saw me come out dressed and ready to go and said I looked like Tinkerbells evil twin hehehe. Only advice I have is Stop letting everyone else control your srecial day unless you want to push the burden off your shoulders a bit Just make sure that what you push off is nothing you will not want changed from your original plan!!!
Good Luck !!!!

I was always told "Your wedding is your mother's wedding, when you grow up and have a little girl- you can have a wedding"

Not told this by my own mother, but she did the majority of planning for mine- I've never been one of those "oooo dream wedding" people- was busy, in another country, and let her have a marvelous time doing it.
Did find a gorgeous dress in Budapest tho, so that was all mine.....

I'm not letting my mother get away with that one!  She's already had two of her own!  ;D

Frankly, I think that's a load of crap.  Not everyone has daughters, or even children at all.  I just want to have fun and celebrate my marriage to my DF.  I wouldn't have fun if my mother was arranging it, because my taste and hers are very different.   ;D

Good for you for staying true to yourself and away from the norm.  That is exactly what I would want, a black wedding dress.  It's more me than a frilly white one.  Do you have a wedding pic you can post?

Well another update...The tux battle is over...ha ha we started over again and found the entire ensemb in his closet.  We dropped the waistcoat (vest) and just kept it simple suit, tie and handsome man (well there is a shirt in there too).  My DF is happy as well as my MIL,FIL, Brother, Mother and most of all me.  He put it on showed me on the webcam and I said THAT IS IT!!!  Don't change a thing.  So not only does he looks so handsome it was free....YIPPY!

My dress is back is to the original design and all worked out.

The cake topper, well I dropped that battle.  I am picking those battles so much smarter now!

Phew that was  a close one!!!  Thanks everyone

A black wedding dress???  That is interesting I would love to see that too.

Even though I am ashamed of myself and the way I acted yesterday I realize now that I was NOT a Bridezilla...my goodness the horror stories I have heard.

Very good...definitely choose your battles.
When I am grown-up I will understand how BEAUTIFUL it feels to administrate my life effectively.

Until then I will continue to TORCH all correspondence that bores me and to dance NAKED over the remnants of its still glowing embers.

Will put a pic up as soon as someone gets film developed and emails me some over lol. No one thought to bring a digital camara as everyone else thought someone else was bringing one lol hard to pass the buck when less than 15 ppl where here lol. My mother brought a couple throw away ones and my brother had the camcorder and still can not believe I haven't seen one picture yet.
Glad to hear all has worked out for you sweetie! win the battles that mean the most and wave off the ones that can be!!!
Good Luck!!!

I have to say - after my trip home arranging stuff for the wedding and the knock-down drag out fight I had (or 3!) with my mom, it is NOT her wedding. She arranged my older sister's wedding even though my sister was living in the same house. That is just not me. She and I differ on some things, but i have let her have control of a few things such as centerpieces. That way, it's not my fault if ppl don't like them (and who really cares anyway about centerpieces?) I have had wedding overload these last 2 weeks and will be so happy to be on my honeymoon in just over 2months. If only I could get these invitations right and sent out, that would be a huge relief!!

I had to laugh at the title.  A mutual friend of ours here in England refered to dh as bridezilla, because he couldn't get them to do exactly what I wanted with flowers.  Me, I could have cared less.  We had so many of the people we cared about in one room all together to support us and watch us do this important thing.  And yes, the flowers weren't right, and yes I had trouble sitting in my dress, and yes, the train was so long that people would step on the dress, but to be honest, I ate, drank, and was merry!  I do have to admit though, that the reason dh was bridezilla was so my mother couldn't get her hands on the wedding.  My rule was if you aren't paying, you don't get a say.  So we had a nice place to have fun with those we care about.  And well done on choosing your battles!  Sometimes, I think that's what's hardest about planning weddings... taking that step back, taking a breath, and then deciding what's most important to get right!  It will be a wonderful wedding for you, I know it!   :)
