Webster's dictionary gives a short but not very explanatory definition of meat loaf: "a dish of ground meat seasoned and baked in the form of a loaf." DUH!

Galaxy, you shouldn't expect a full recipe from a dictionary. Any editor could tell you that.

Mine turned out very nice. It was a great bit of comfort food.
Another shameless promotion for www.mclevey.com, the best place on the internet to buy art.

in the US i've seen meatloaf mix- a mixture of pork, beef and perhaps something else.  do we have this?  is it important?

I'd say it serves 4 quite generously.  Enjoy!   :)

I miss meatloaf. When I went back to the states last year, the only thing I asked my mom was to make her meatloaf. She never got around to it, sadly.

With Jon being a vegetarian, it's not really practical for me to make a whole meatloaf for myself (besides, I really hate making beef as I just don't know how to do it, I'm always afraid of making myself sick).

Does anyone know how you could go about making a vegetarian meatloaf? My only concern is that you'd not be able to get the mince to stick together well enough and it'd all fall apart. Any tips?

I've made a meatloaf type thing with brown lentils before.  I've never tried to do it with veg mince, for the reasons you mention. Brown lentils work quite well though.

I made DH meatloaf awhile back and he almost ate the entire thing!  He's off meatloff now because of it, but loved it at the time!

My mom has a turkey meatloaf with cranberries that everyone says is great.  I'll post the recipe if anyone wants it.

Here's two recipes I found - one made with lentils, the other with mock meat.

I think I'm going to try the one with lentils on Friday.

cheers. I'll try the second one first. I just think it'd be more like actual meatloaf. But the lentils one sounds yummy too.

so i made lola's meatloaf.  amazing flavor!  thanks again for posting recipie, i would have never thought of cooking onions in wine, or putting peppers in meatloaf.

but mine was way too runny.  uncutable- scooped out on plate.  i'll have to work on that.
