I LOVE wrapping presents too, but after my ONE package I sent to my mom was going to cost £40 to mail, I ordered everything else from US websites!

What were you sending??

Split up large parcels into smaller jiffy bags. And ship, rather than sending airmail. It's not very expensive.

I would love to do more card and gifts but find the expense too much right now.  But I am hoping to do a bit more when funds become more available.  I have been so skint I couldn't send a card.  This has upset me alot actually.  My family just sent me a box for my birthday.  Sometimes I feel even worse then.  I always vow to work on it more as well.  I was thinking of buying my cards for the year all at once then at least I'd have them.

Chary how long does it take to ship things generally?  Instead of airmail.

It can take a couple of months, but generally it's less than that. The Christmas deadline is usually somewhere toward the end of October - but my presents always arrive well in advance of Christmas.

Birthday Cards: Everyone in my family gets a birthday card. Aunts, Uncles, Grandparents--im big on cards

Birthday Presents: Immediate family only

Mothers & Fathers Day: Parents get a card & a phone call

Christmas presents: those that send me presents and that im closest with get presents. Basically my moms side of the family and immediate family. I think last year i bought for 10 people in the USA for christmas.

My family is pretty much the same. I'm glad it's not just me cause from the way purpledaffodil phrased her question, I got the distinct impression that something was wrong with that. :)

Yeah, my family has never been big on gift giving or sending cards for every occasion, I'm not sure why!  Made for a bit of a shock when meeting DH's family who are definitely the gift giving and card sending for everything type.  Me, I just think a telephone call or email is just as good as a card for the various holidays :)

I don't send cards or gifts really, but we do celebrate when we see each other. I do try to send birthday cards, but my family isn't very big on birthdays at all. We have a big unbirthday party when we get together.

i send things to family but i keep it on the cheap by ordering from U.S.-based stores. i kept a stash of U.S. dollars so i don't need to worry about dealing with exchange rates and shipping rates when i want to send a small parcel or a customised postcard.
The economy fell apart. Then we moved to Brighton. Disappointing- yes. Any regrets? No. I am interested in meeting Sussex people and any other souls that have a shared mission of getting to know the rest of the world better. My Blog: daveavenue.
