I have a very similar question so hope it's okay if I add mine here (I'm new here :) )

I have no formal custody agreement with my daughter's father - we were never married, and he has only seen her once in the past nine years. He currently lives in NZ while I am in Australia. I understand I need a letter from him in order to apply for a settlement visa for my daughter - what exactly should it say, and who needs to sign it? Thanks in advance for any information or advice about this.

is he named on the birth certificate? if not you don't need anything. if he is, just a letter as prince.je has said.

Aww, parents like that just make my heart all warm. You know, the ones who understand what's REALLY important.

What a jerk.
And if you threw a party
Invited everyone you knew
You would see the biggest gift would be from me
And the card attached would say
"Thank you for being a friend!"

Yeah, what a wonderful specimen, eh?

I told him that he could sign and no longer pay child support (which has been a measly 24 dollars a week for my sons whole life), or I would go back to court and get it raised like I should have as soon as he started working full time! (We were school age when the 24 dollars per week was ordered.)

He is the epitome of a deadbeat dad, but at least we will be thousands of miles away from him...

 It's a huge relief, regardless.

Now, if only I could sell my car, I'd be on my way.

I'm there with you on that one.  I had 2 to get rid of - one my sister is taking when I leave.  The other, been advertising for 2 weeks and no serious interests yet.
