What I used to find wierd was how my dad used to eat his dinner, he'd always leave the meat til last.
So if we were having Sunday roast, he'd first eat all his veg, then eat all his potatoes and then eat his meat. With fish and chips, there wouldn't be a single chip left on his plate before he even cut into the fish!

Was that a hold over from earlier hard times?  I've heard of people, historically, eating (and serving) a lot of stuff (including Yorkshire pudding) beforehand, in order to make a smaller chunk of meat for a family go farther.  So filling up on other stuff, then having the protein.

I do that.  I always eat my meat last and I eat one thing at a time.  So in a Sunday roast I'll eat all the carrots, then all the potatoes, then all the next vegetable and finish by eating all the meat.  I think I get it from my dad, but I'm not sure.

For me it's a texture thing....I just get bored of chewing the same sort of thing, I guess.  I dont know.  I dont think this is strange at all.

As far as a sunday roast type thing, I HAVE to mix it up.  A bite of potatoes, a bite of veg, and a bite of meat. Rinse and Repeat.  Sometimes I'll stack my fork so that it has a nibble of each.

I eat one thing at a time as well.

Some people in the US call this "eating like a farmer." I don't know where that expression comes from.

I pick and choose what to eat on my plate. It's always the same stuff every tea time, so, I have to find ways to make the eating experience interesting for me. On Wednesday nights, though, I HAVE to eat my meat with my potatoes because the meat's always over cooked and too tough for me to eat it other wise. I bless the days that MiL decides to cook the meat with onions, because the onions make the meat softer and more flavourful. Most of the time, though, I'll leave my favourite things till last, and eat the things I can't bear first. For example, I ate my potatoes tonight first because I'm sick to death of them now, then my fish, and then my peas and corn.
