Tired of the main course, bring on dessert
« on: May 11, 2010, 01:16:37 PM »
While I was eating my pancakes for lunch, I got tired of eating them before I felt full.  I don't do this as often as I did as a kid, but I still do it and my dh finds this bizarre.  When he asks me why I can't explain it, I'm just done with it and if I feel like if I eat any more I'll just be ill.  I keep thinking I can't be the only one who does this.  I am wondering if this has anything to do with the fact I eat loads of one kind of snack and then all of the sudden, I'll be craving a completely different kind of snack thing.  I've been struggling with these eating habits all my life, so I'm hoping I'm not just a freak.

Anyone else either get bored with their food half way through or have monster cravings and then all of the sudden you move to something else?  Or am I all on my own here?

Yeah, once in a while I will actually just get tired of eating something before I am full or finished. But it doesn't happen as often as I would like it to, especially not when I am eating something yummy like pancakes.  :P

I think it's pretty common.

There's a saying:

"Fat people eat till they're full.

Thin people eat till they're not hungry."

I get what your saying sweetpeach, but often I am still hungry and I just can't eat any more of what I am currently eating.  Even if I'm not too hungry when I am feeling bored or done with a plate of food, I know I'll be starving in an hour or two.  I just can't stand to eat what is in front of me.  My family all think I'm crazy and maybe I am.  :-\\\\

It sounds like you are a snacker. Or need a variety of different foods because you get bored with them easily. Maybe you should try making tapas, or just eat a little of this and a little of that.  :)

I definitely understand.  I get bored as well.  I wind up eating my lunch over a span from about 10:30-4:00 as a result.

I get it. It doesn't happen a lot, but it does happen to me. You're not crazy!
When I was 5 years old, my mother always told me that happiness was the key to life. When I went to school, they asked me what I wanted to be when I grew up. I wrote down ‘happy’. They told me I didn’t understand the assignment, and I told them they didn’t understand life. ~ John Lennon

I used to do a variation of this every time I'd get a fish burrito in the States, and they're just about my favourite thing! No matter how much I craved one, after a few bites, once I got almost to the end, I'd dump out the fillings into the container, and only eat the tortilla, and throw the whole lot away! What am I like??! :D

YAY! I'm glad I'm not all on my own on this one.  A lot of my friends don't understand my odd eating habits.  I definitely think I'm a snacker Jewlz.  Left on my own, I think I'd graze my way through the day just like you Leisa.  I definitely used to do that at my job.

Abbygirl, I do that.  Any food with filling, if I get bored with it, I'll dump out the filling and eat them separately or eat only the part I like best.

Thank goodness I'm not in Pink Floyd's reform school and can eat my pudding for my dinner.   ;D

DH is always bemused by my eating style. I always eat filled items separated out. The one exception seems to be UK McDonald's burgers. I suppose because the meat patties are smaller here, and therefore don't get as sloppy and slippery as they would in the States. I just say that it makes the food taste better and last longer!:D

I agree!  I have only recently been able to eat a burger with loads of extra stuff besides ketchup on it.  And burgers and most of the time tacos are about the only thing I can eat assembled.  Otherwise, it's pull it apart and each bit eaten separately.   ;D  I'm such a messy eater this way.  I'm so glad I have company.  I will be smugly telling my family I'm not all that odd after all very soon.

I don't think it's crazy. I think it's normal to eat a little bit of something and then get bored with it.

Not very often, but occasionally I'll get that - sometimes if a savoury dish is particularly rich, or very spiced (not like hot chillies-spiced - I like that!)...I'll like it at first, but then just get tired of the flavour before I finish the portion (and yes - to the point of, well I really liked this, but if I eat any more, I think I'll be sick).

And yes - I'm all for eating dessert first anyway!  ;D
