Ink, I've been following your thread and hoped that your gp would help. I'm so sorry that they didn't do anything. I can sympathise with the "go take some paracetomol" response though. That's what I'm told by my gp no matter what I say is wrong. I hope you go else where to somebody who will actually help you.

Goes without saying I first and foremost recommend going to the doctor (or finding another, if you can, because it's not something you want to put off if it's something serious.

But - I will say I have had some terrific stomach pains that ended up being related to the fake sugars and similar things that are in low-fat and diet foods.  So, anything that might contain any of those sweetners (splenda, equal, sweet & low, etc), or similar products might be something worth avoiding.    I cleaned up my diet of those and any foods that have them, and it's like I have a new stomach.

Although this thread is old, I thought I would add some information that I hope the OP/future visitors would find useful.

Op, I would suggest you do one of the following:

1) Book another appointment with a different GP
2) Request a callback from a GP
3) Go to a walk in center.

If you do go for option 1 or 2 and the doctor suggests the same thing, simply tell him/her you have and nothing has changed. If the doctor still doesn't take notice, you may talk to the head of complaints at the surgery.

A lot of surgery's have emergency appointments, so please try and tell the receptionist that it is urgent. Many surgery's also offer "sit and wait" options after closing time, you simply come in and wait till a doctor is free.

I would always suggest the walk in center, its much easier and faster.
