You don't need to be registered with a GP to use an NHS dentist. I've been to an NHS dentist, but haven't registered with a GP as of yet.

DW got her daughter in to see an NHS dentist when she was just visiting us for a holiday!

So, I went in, filled out a one page paper with my medical history and name, and they gave me an appointment for Monday and said it would be less than 20 pounds!!!!!!!!!!!
And, they did not ask me for ID, or ANYTHING.

WOW... NOT IN AMERICA... It was $175 to have my teeth cleaned in NYC, and the soonest appointment I could get was 2 months away.

Ummmm.... WOW. I LIKE ENGLAND.
“It was when I realised I had a new nationality: I was in exile. I am an adulterous resident: when I am in one city, I am dreaming of the other. I am an exile; citizen of the country of longing.” ― Suketu Mehta.

Married 04/13/11, in NYC.
Applied for Spouse Visa the following week, with express service, and I was approved 4 days later!
Arrived in the UK 05/20/11.
I took the stupid LIUK Test Oct. 2012.
We were granted ILR In Person in Croydon on 04/23/13.
Got BRP 2 days later, in mail box - it just appeared.

I suspect the less than 20 pounds fee is only for the checkup (think I paid £16 last time) and not any repairs

That should fall into band 2, which is £47.

NHS dental charges

There are three NHS charge bands.

Band 1: £17 includes an examination, diagnosis and advice. If necessary, it also includes X-rays, a scale and polish and planning for further treatment.
Band 2: £47 includes all treatment covered by Band 1, plus additional treatment, such as fillings, root canal treatment and removing teeth (extractions).
Band 3: £204 includes all treatment covered by Bands 1 and 2, plus more complex procedures, such as crowns, dentures and bridges.

Yeah, but the dentist said it is so tiny that it will only take a second, so she will not charge me that.
