I don't think that anyone who regularly watches Newsnight, Andrew Marr or Question Time would say that the BBC shows any bias toward the government.

I think you are right Tyke. I think it probably seems that way as you say because it is the Government making the news so to speak (and Labour isn't really hatching any new ideas lately). Marr however is slightly right of center; in his book "modern Britain" he paints Thatcher in a nice light. Nick Robinson is right of center. But they do an admirable job of keeping it in check.
I just hope that more people will ignore the fatalism of the argument that we are beyond repair. We are not beyond repair. We are never beyond repair. - AOC

Hi,

Well, according to this article, reading the news is bad for you as it leads to fear and aggression, hinders your creativity and ability to think deeply!!

the comments below are good as well!

I'm going to try reducing my 'news' reading as I do agree with the 'distracting' element of it, which is also why I've chosen not to be be on Twitter, Facebook etc (for now!)  and have plenty to be getting on with in the meantime!

Cheers, DtM! West London & Slough UK!

Tyke,an, you obviously haven't read the articles discussing how the BBC completely goes along with the government's portrayal of the NHS even when it's outright false. Do a google search for NHS BBC bias? Here is one example of a comprehensive report: http://www.opendemocracy.net/ourbeeb/oliver-huitson/how-bbc-betrayed-nhs-exclusive-report-on-two-years-of-censorship-and-distorti
And don't even get me started on the BBc's terrible coverage of the Scottish independence debate!  >:(

I like Have I Got News for You. :D

That and Mock the Week make up most of my news "watching".  I read the stories on the BBC headlines app on my phone though.

When the Government were proposing cuts, the BBC ran a long series on the news about the cuts and it certainly wasn't putting them in a good light. In "going along" what I've seen is reporting what the government are saying, that is what I want in a news bulletin, I don't want opinion I want them to just report what is happening. But I've certainly seen lots of criticism on Newsnight.
