Sorry if I'm a bit manic, but I'm really worried about my daughter. Since last night she's been complaining about an ear ache and its gotten worse today. Now the pain has spread to her neck and shoulders  :( DF and I are planning on taking her to the A&E if this persists. Problem is 1. We didn't purchase travel insurance and 2. We're due to fly back to San Diego on Monday. The last thing I want to do is overstay my welcome in a country I'm applying for a visa for shortly after I get back, but I don't want to risk putting my 8 year old on an airplane with this condition. We've already tried eardrops and pain reliever medicine and nothing seems to help my poor little girl. What should I do? Any suggestions? Has anyone had a similar situation happen? Any advice is greatly appreciated!

Just take her to A&E. An ear infection isn't going to be affected by flying other than being a little painful. I'm sure she will be fine!

Don't apologize for sounding manic! It is a scary thing when your kids are ill!  :-\\\\
If she gets antibiotics an ear infection should clear up fairly quickly and she might be a bit uncomfortable on the flight monday on landing and takeoff, but it really should clear up right away!
As far as travel insurance, as long as it is emergency care in A&E, (I just learned this by the way)!
http://talk.uk-yankee.com/index.php?topic=80272.0:) you won't need it, as A&E emergency care is free of charge.

make sure you keep the paperwork as the question is asked on the spouse visa if you received health care in the UK and if you have an NHS number, which, if she isn't admitted, she won't get. I am not sure if this even applies to children or not though? But it should be nothing for you to worry about, so do what you have to do, if you feel she needs to go to the emergency room, take her there to get checked out.
Good luck!  :)
