Wow!

Has your father been approached by developers?

Nope.  It isn't big enough.  It is part of a parcel owned by ranching hobbyists to keep their horses and wean their calves before carting them off to winter or summer pastures.  They will hold onto it till the city can't ignore all the whinging newcomers.  ;)

Funny how The Brit in the relationship often is "enchanted" with the idea of moving over to the US, when the original American over here is horrified by the thought of going back. (OK, horrified is a strong way to put it...but I can't go back now...I've seen the light!)

Well, I guess the UK seemed like an enchanting place to us American expats because WE were the ones who wanted to move over here in the first place, right?  :) My boyfriend actually wonders how I can actually stand it over here sometimes... I guess because it's *always* been his home and he sees nothing special about it. (Which is probably how many of us feel about America.) I can totally see why our British counterparts may be enchanted by the idea of living in the US... it's exotic to them! Just like the idea of living in Britain was once exotic to us. 8)

Honeybee, are you disenchanted  already?? ;D

to be honest I never really thought it was going  to be  enchanting...

I have family in Italy so I was  already  'aware' of the commodoties  i'd be missing  in europe..

I go back to the states  for  xmas..and I am afraid  of  the culture  shock  i may have to face

Don't pick San Antonio, Tx. It's all of what you saw and worse. Including getting shot, stabbed, raped, hit and run, or sitting on your porch and getting blown away! Trust me, stay where you are!
