I had a conversation with someone today about trump who dislikes him as much as I do.  And I said to her, the scary thing about trump is the hatred he brings out in people.  In days past....if you met someone who had a difference of opinion about politics....you agreed to disagree and that was the end of it.  Today....if I meet someone who at this point still supports trump...all I think is you ####ing idiot....and that pretty much ends anything I want to do with them....who can still support that....I have a cleaning business and one of my clients son was in visiting and as with every other day, trump was on the news....and her son Alan said he voted for him....I said seriously????  Do you still support him ???  Alan said no.  I looked at him, smiled and said then we don’t have a problem.  But the fact that he brings those feelings out of me is scary to me.....that’s not who I am....but I seriously don’t understand how anyone cannot see through him and what he’s doing.....and be stupid enough to still support what he stands for.

My US vote is based in Arkansas, where 97% voted for Trump.  I have first cousins who still post arguments defending Trump when mutual friends say anything critical of him.  My vote is useless (but I do still go through the motions... warren/Sanders 2020!).  You can not change peoples' minds through reasoned discourse.  I am not traveling to a city and attempting to demonstrate as I am not physically up to that sort of thing (anymore).

If there is an act of resistence I can do, I will do it.  I have vulnerable friends whom I would house if they needed to get out.  But I can not stop the Trump steam train.  I can not alter its course.  I saw this potential in 2015, and nothing I said was getting past the tribalism, so all I can do is watch this play out and help individuals where I can.  So if I can't do anything about it, why torture myself by looking at the news and confirming my fears every day?

haha  Yes, he'd be fine with it.  I'm the one who's wary.  It's not you, it's me.  I have had more than one unhappy landing from being carried.  My husband and I were jointly to blame for the last one... a piggyback gone terribly wrong (we both realized I was sliding down and we both tried to fix it at the same time without communicating... he hoisted as I flung myself upward.  I flew over his head and literally nose-dived into the street).  I had abrasions on my nose, upper lip, and forehead; a black eye, and a suspected-but-not-confirmed broken nose, and we decided no more piggybacks for me.  At least not while we're drunk!  We only did it because I was struggling to make the walk home from the pub and he thought it would be easier if he just carried me home rather than stopping to rest every ten meters.

My US vote is based in Texas so I know how you feel.

2016 was our first year back in England and I was determined to have my vote even though it counts for nought. However, it was a real pain getting the ballot papers out of Montgomery County and when they came, the instructions stated that the ballot had to be inside a sealed envelope of such and such dimensions which in turn had to be in another envelope to be mailed to such and such an address. Both envelopes had to have the address printed on them. Since the majority of overseas voters are believed to vote Democrat then I didn't expect Texas to provide pre-printed envelopes or pay for the postage, but the fact that the instructions state that the envelopes have to have the correct address printed on them means to me that they immediately get ditched as spoiled or invalid ballots. I don't have a printer that can print addresses directly onto envelopes, so that is me out of the voting pool.

It's a shame that Montgomery County does things that way. Travis County sent all the stuff I needed with my ballot, so I didn't have to faff around trying to print envelopes or any of that.

That's the way it should be for a country that values democracy. (I don't mind paying the postage to send in my ballot).

Same here. I wonder if it's the difference between a majority republican vs majority democrat county?

Exactly. Travis County includes Austin which includes 90,000 students and students predominantly vote Democrat.

That's funny, Arizona bends over backwards to be accommodating to me and they seem pretty republican.

I guess it could be just a trap and they throw my ballot away immediately.

Sounds surprisingly like the recent marital  bike wreck.  Every time my wife tells the story, there are more lifeguards (5 at last telling) and they seem to be getting more handsome.

Once I accidentally put my finger in her eyeball up to the second knuckle.

It may well depend on your particular County as seen above with Travis County. Our Congressional District is that of Kevin Brady, chairman of the Ways and Means Committee for many years. At our local elections a great many positions go unopposed, only Republicans on the ticket.
