I haven't tried on any clothes in America in three years. I wear a UK 12 now. What size would that make me, you think?

It would depend on the store, brand, etc., but I'm guessing you'd be an 8 or a 10 in the US. You lucky dog!  >:( ;)

Have sizes changed since I was a kid, cause I know I weigh more and my measurements are bigger than the last time I was in a size 8 or 10!! (That's going WAY back...like 1982!)

But never fear, gentlemen; castration was really not the point of feminism, and we women are too busy eviscerating one another to take you on.

I feel your pain. I'm the opposite, however. My UK 16 (or sometimes 14) bottoms fit fine. But my UK 18 tops are too tight. I still need a 20 up top. :(  What sort of a fruit does that make me?

Just a voluptuous one, Belindaloo!  :) I have the same problem with my shirts. I find the clothes sizing here to be very wonky. If a pair of trousers fits my butt and hips, it's falling off my waist. If it would fit my waist, it won't get past my butt. Don't even get me started on petite sizes, either.   ;) I'm short and have yet to find a pair of trousers which don't require higher heeled shoes...

I'm looking forward to my upcoming trip home to NY next month to get some essentials, but I am between sizes due to dieting and plan on losing 20 more pounds! This could be interesting  :-\\\\

I can't assume a certain size fits me. I think the last time I got something without trying it on first was back when I was 6 and in size 6x....was I ever that little? Ack.

It's not just in the UK, though. I have that problem anywhere I try to shop. Clothes are only made for symmetrical well-proportioned people. Blech.

I had a hard time finding anything to fit me when I visited England (everything seemed to be built for 12 year olds).  I did finally end up finding a gorgeous skirt suit at TJ Hughes - it's from the Klass line.  It is really a beautifully made suit, and is totally machine washable!  I couldn't belive it, but it really did come out like it's completely new, after hanging to dry.

The suit is a UK size 14 and it fit very well.  I wear a US 12 in tops and trousers, but have to have a US 10 in skirts - not sure why, but size 12 skirts are too big, it's weird.  I always have had a hard time finding clothes to fit.  I have what my grandma calls a "Coca Cola" bottle figure, big on top and bottom with a tiny waist.  It makes finding trousers a horrible experience.  If they fit in the butt they are too big in the waist.  The best thing that ever happened was for low rise jeans and trousers to come into style, I can finally find stuff!!

I agree!!  It makes me think that I need  trousers that have 'some' elastic in them.. Not all the way around..  like  Doreen on MadTV  but  if it's half way.. it works better for  dressslacks or work slacks..  Ow ride  trousers  always make  me me feel like a poser..  and then of course there is that paranoia that they are sliding off.. LOL..
