I'd just like to know how a team with Fabien Barthez in goal winds up being one of the last three standing ???....I think tonight they get their cupcakes against Portugal.

Ah, Barthez!  A shame when he left English football because he certainly provided plenty of comedy.

I have two fond memories of Barthez:

1) Standing like a little school boy just outside his goal, with his hand raised high in the air as if asking to go potty, whilst Paolo Di Canio bore down on goal (no defenders between Barthez and Di Canio).  Barthez didn't move a muscle (calling for offside) and Di Canio puts it away cool as a cucumber and the goal stood.  Ah, the pure joy of the moment!  I nearly wet myself with laughter.

2) The second one I'm a little less clear on, but it was played at Highbury.  Henry made him look the prat twice (and it may have been a third too) as he fumbled Henry's shots.  I'm sure Vicky will remember more of this one, but it was classic Barthez screw ups.
Insert wonderfully creative signature here …

Am I the only one who thinks that Barthez looks like Donald Pleasance?

 ;D

It is amazing that France have got this far, but if they got past Brazil, they can get past Portugal.

Poor Owen never had the opportunity to shine :(.

Everyone rather fell flat this tournament.  Lampard was cursed with missed goals, and Crouch proved too gangly to connect with anything.  The only "shiners" were J.Cole and Terry & Ashley Cole's defense.

Both Coles proved to be a good partnership, i feel Terry was found out at this level and was prone to making mistakes.

Not to mention Hargreaves..  he did pretty darn well considering he was facing the wrath of the entire nation when he was chosen.  Oh yeah... who was it that scored in penalties in the England/Portugal game..?  By the end, he had even won over the commentators and they were spitting blood about him at first!

Apparently, they can't keep his jersey on the shelves in Germany.

Terry had a bad tournament.

Ashley Cole did well, Joe was pretty good too, Hargreaves was outstanding, and Aaron lennon was just outstanding...if he had been given more time, it could have been quite different.

Lennon was never gonna be given a fair chance with Sven admitting before the tournament, a fit Beckham will always start. Now that he's no longer captain, i expect McLaren to give him his 100th cap, but after that it'll be Lennon and SWP for the right wing. Thank god.
