I don't think it would occur to me to order a "slushy" Margarita! I prefer mine on the rocks!  :)

I agree.  Slushy = less alcohol ... and who wants that? ;)

When we had friends over for tacos on Sunday my husband made not only lime margaritas but also hibiscus (flor de jamaica) ... those were divine!

Ooooh, that sounds amazing!

Next time you all are in Texas order two frozen margaritas and you will have a really nice buzz.  Order three and you will be knocked on your ass.  Order four and have the privilege of being carried home.  There is plenty of alcohol in them!

I'm going to have to google Primm.  Thanks!

Oh and I guess I'll add while we are on the topic that I requested a margarita from an American resteraunt and I felt like a celebrity because the bartender brought it to me and eagerly awaited my approval.  He did great.  I forgot to ask him how he made it.  He did say that the "slush" (I think he used the word slush) machines have started to catch on a little in the UK as of about three years ago.  I haven't seen one yet, but I only get to enjoy a drink here or there.

When I have a margarita I like a slushy one myself, I love raspberry margarita's. boy do I ever love my Jose Cuervo Tequila. I couldn't tell you when the last time I had a margarita though its been ages. when it comes to drinking not that Im bragging but in my youth early 20's I could keep up with the boys, also I wouldnt have a hangover in the morning either.  Im such a lightweight now, so a slushy margarita is just fine with me.

You can freeze the sour mix and then blend it with the booze.  Makes a great frozen margarita and it's not diluted down by plain old ice.

Another trick for frozen Margaritas to prevent dilution: make sure your lime juice mix is stronger than you'd make for a neat version.

Of course, increase the booze too.  *hic*

This is the way I make 'em ... for one lime margarita

1 fresh lime, cut in half
1 fresh orange
sugar
triple sec
tequila
salt

--squeeze the juice of one lime into mixing glass including bits of pulp. I just stick a fork into the center of the lime and squeeze!
--1 tablespoon of sugar (melt the sugar into a syrup if you can be bothered, but if you're lazy a good shaking will do)
--1 dash of orange juice (just a wee squeeze, not too much!)
--1 tablespoon tequila
--1 teaspoon triple sec
--give the mixture a wee stir, salt the rim of your glass
--pour over 2 big ice cubes (very important to only use 2 ice cubes, too much ice will kill the taste. As the ice slowly melts, it will bring out all the flavor of the limes and tequila)

That's it! A bit time consuming, but well worth it ...

For the flor de jamaica (hibiscus) margaritas, a Yucatan cocktail, just substitute the same amount of hibiscus tea for the juice of 1 lime. The flor de jamaica is a bit more bitter though so I use 2 dashes of orange juice and a bit more of a rounded tablespoon of sugar. This makes a beautifully colorful margarita and everyone gets pissed!

Hope this helps ...

Oops I forgot, it helps to use a high quality reposado (aged) tequila if you're making fresh lime or hibiscus margaritas. It's so subtle that your friends will only taste the fruit or hibiscus and they will only know they are happy til they get hammered.

My fave is Patron, which will set you back about 50 quid in the UK.

Cheers!
