I bring Neosporin as well.  My son had perscription antibiotic ointment a month ago for his scar which got infected.  But the tube said not to use it on children under 8!  I know Great Ormond St. prescribed it, but still...

So, I called my pediatrician in the States and he said to try Neosporin first, which worked.

The prescription here was called Auerocort (sp?).

I did a little digging around on wikipedia because I find the loyalty to neosporin strange. You can get 'anti-septic' treatment such as creams or TCP here in the UK which work just as well. In fact according to wiki...

"Antiseptics (Greek αντί, against, and σηπτικός, putrefactive) are antimicrobial substances that are applied to living tissue/skin to reduce the possibility of infection, sepsis, or putrefaction. Some antiseptics are true germicides, capable of destroying microbes (bacteriocidal), whilst others are bacteriostatic and only prevent or inhibit their growth. Antibacterials are antiseptics that only act against bacteria."

I always use TCP. The smell is awful but it certainly works, but for those more accostmed to creams, they're available... http://www.boots.com/shop/product_details.jsp?productid=1031365&classificationid=1046395&slmRefer=
I'm thinking about getting metal legs. It's a risky operation, but it'll be worth it.

I've heard several people make quips about them selling pain killer with codeine here but not in the States.  I thought you might like to know that Tylenol 3, which has codeine in it, is sold over the counter in the USA as well.  It came out over the counter the end of last year before I moved here.

Just an FYI.
