I have a copy reserved, but our little bookshop doesn't do the midnight thing. I can happily wait for the next morning.

speaking of jk rowling on wossy last friday, did anyone else get the impression that it's harry she's killing off? the way she described her reaction to one of the chapters she had written put me in that frame of mind.

I really don't think Harry will be killed off.  People have said that since the books began so it would seem totally unoriginal to kill him off.  Plus at the end of the day they are kids books and it's not common for authors to kill off beloved characters.

I don't think any of the main 3 kids will die.  Just my gut feeling.

I think if she snuffs him, it will be because she doesn't want anyone else writing about him.

I can sort of see her point.  There are a lot of folks out there who are scarily reminiscent of Stephen King's 'Misery'.

So I like Harry Potter, I've been enjoying reading the books for a good 4 or so years now.  I've never pre-ordered a HP book and always just pick it up at the bookstore a few weeks after release, which is what I intended to do with book 7.  But it seems like the internets (okay, maybe just Livejournal) is exploding with HP fever and I'm starting to get swept up in it...but the deadline to pre-order a book from Amazon and Waterstones was yesterday (eek!)

So I'm wondering how likely it would be to just go into a store a get a copy on Saturday- I'm not expecting the big chains like Waterstones or Borders to have any after their midnight release parties are over, but I know smaller and more unlikely stores might have copies (I'm thinking The Works or even Woolworth's?)  Anyone ever tried this or have some tips on how to score a non-pre ordered HP book on release day (or at least release weekend?)

There's never a problem with availability of Harry Potter books on the release date.  You will be able to get one at your local Tesco's or ASDA for the cheapest price.

I agree.I was able to get The Order of the Phoenix the same day it was released no problems at all. I think I got it at Borders.

yay, that's a relief.  There used to be a problem with getting release day copies of HP in the small town where I lived in the States- glad to know it's not an issue here!  I hadn't thought of getting it at Tesco- think I might walk down there on Saturday first rather than going all the way into town :)

Just a quick note to say that any and all spoilers for HP7 should be discussed here:

with the adult version-
i hoped they saved that locket from the pic for the movie.. cause it would make sence.. since its on the cover.

i like the american version better than the uk one, i think cause i just like orange alot.. lol
i find the uk jacket funny in the sense of i've read the book and know exactly what they are doing and that scene just keeps playing in my head when i look at it..  *GREAT!* **smiles**
