I'm adding a vote for the fantastic NHS and I'm not even in the UK yet!  This week my Honey went from "I think I'm getting the stomach flu" to "I'm at the hospital, and in two hours they are doing surgery to remove my appendix " in the space of three days. The nurses at the hospital were just great with him, and very, very kind to the hysterical American wife calling from France every two hours to see what was happening and how he was doing.    [smiley=2thumbsup.gif]

Just wanted to add my 2p worth.
I was very skeptical about the NHS after reading the newspapers and hearing horror stories from neighbors and work colleagues. Today I went to Kingston A&E after a spectacular fall in Bushy Park yesterday. I was in and out in less than an hour, which is unheard of in most US emergency rooms. The nurse, x-ray technician and doctor were all great. My arm is in a sling until I see the orthopedist next week (fractured radial head aka elbow), ouch.
Anyways, it was a positive experience and I thought I'd share.
