Hi!  I have recently relocated from the States after marrying an Englishman.  We live in Oldbury in the West Midlands.  I just recieved my items and shipped only boxes...my husband knows the specifics more than I...but it was through UPackWe Ship.  It was quite reasonable and we drove to Manchester to retrieve it.  The boxes were a bit banged up...but no damage to anything.  It also came quicker than we expected.  No problems...they sort the customs and all for you.  The only inconvenience was having to drive the shipment into Chicago to ship.  (I was in Upper Michigan) we flew out of Chicago anyway... not so bad.  I assume they may ship from Portland?  I used to live in Portland and Metro areas.  LOVED IT!  DH and I plan to return within 2-3 years.
I blabbered on didn't i?!  Sorry!!!  Good Luck!!  If I can help with any moving advice or ins/outs  let me know!      Jules

I think we are going to use UPackWeShip as well.  It's good to hear someone else's experience with them.  I didn't think we'd have as much to ship as we do, so it's going to be the most cost effective method for us.

Thank you, everyone, for the welcome and well wishes!  We've just received my husbands' WP so now we're ready to apply for our visas.  We're hoping to arrive in the UK by Nov. 7th, but that depends how quickly we can get our visas.  I'm crossing my fingers that it will be smooth and timely.  :-\\\\
Don't worry, you've got plenty of time! The visas should take about a week. Work permit visas are pretty straightforward, much more so than fiance/spousal visas, so don't let the stories on here panic you.  :)

Alicia,
My friends in Norwich are having a moms night out party near Norwich on Thursday, Nov 15th. I know it's close to your arrival date, but it might be a great opportunity for you to meet some local women - one friend is an Expat. It's still tentative, but I'll keep you posted if you want.

"No comment" regarding either the University of East Anglia or Norwich itself. Interpret that as you will...
