Our Tesco just started stocking the Epicure tinned black beans last week - I've already bought them out and have made black bean soup twice!  ;D  They're unsalted but I like to add my own spices anyway - the soup has been delicious both times!

funny, I've looked in several places, including Tesco, and didn't find them.  I'll go back and try again.  Thanks for the tips.  There's a group of women that wanted me to do a teaching night on Mexican food and it wouldn't be right to not have good refried beans.

FYI, I also found canned pinto beans at an Asda near Hanley. They were their own brand.

The Tesco tinned black beans are a brand called: Tropical Sun (Black Beans Frijoles Negros in salted water).  At my Tesco, they are in the World Foods aisle, near the Caribbean type foods. They might only have those aisles at Tesco Extras though.

If you're in London, Whole Foods stocks them as well. Until Waitrose started carrying them a few months ago, I was hauling home about 6 cans for a few months!
