Ooooooh so many. My boyfriend and I are both music freaks and hobby musicians and spent the first couple months just passing songs we loved between each other.

To pick a few...or more..

The Distance by Evan and Jaron

The Promise by Tracy Chapman

Paperweight by Joshua Radin and Schuyler Fisk (anything by Joshua Radin actually!)

Autumn Leaves by Eva Cassidy (anything by her too!)

and absolutely Til Kingdom Come by Coldplay, he sent me a recording of him singing this and playing the guitar early on in our relationship, SWOON!

I could fill up cd's of songs that make me think of this man <3

When we were apart it was the mixed CDs we made for each other that helped.  Some specific songs:

Green Eyes by Coldplay
It Must be Love by Madness
Secret Smile by Semisonic
Singing in my sleep by Semisonic
Here with me by Dido
DND by Semisonic
Dream a Little Dream of Me by The Beautiful South
Storybook Love by Mark Knofler
If you're not the one by Daniel Beddingfield
Incidentals by Alicia's Attic

I've been listening lately to the first CD he made me and I don't know whether it's just a reaction to how happy it makes me feel but the baby is kicking up a storm!

Kathy's Song, by Simon and Garfunkel.  ;D

I hear the drizzle of the rain
like a memory it falls
soft and warm, continuing.
Tapping on my roof and walls.

And through the shelter of my mind,
through the window of my eyes,
I gaze beyond the rain-drenched streets
to England, where my heart lies.

My mind's distracted and diffused
my thoughts are many miles away.
They lie with you when you're asleep
and kiss you when you start the day.

And a song I was writing is left undone
I don't know why I spend my time
Writing songs I can't believe
With words that tear and strain to rhyme.

And so you see I have come to doubt
All that I once held as true
I stand alone without beliefs
The only truth I know is you.

And as I watch the drops of rain
Weave their weary paths and die
I know that I am like the rain
There but for the grace of you go I.

 ;D ;D

Still love that song and we've now been married almost 6 years!

Arcade Fire- Cars & Telephones.
Greg Brown- 'Cept you & me babe
The Smiths- There is a light that never goes out
Jose Gonzalez- Heartbeats

There was a really good quote on this site, though I can't remember who said it. Something like, "governments are big, grinding machines, and we are just squishy mortals." Absolutely agree.

We are both music buffs, we did send music videos from Youtube to eachother via email that were long distance related or when the other was feeling the distance to cheer eachother up....all different genres.....and styles...all at different points in our relationship. I trawled through some of them and put them on here.  They are good to listen too when we feel times are tough.

Its kinda of our thing when we are apart....here are some of the links to the videos we sent eachother.  As you can see we are a pair of romantics! (don't tell anyone, I have a tough exterior to maintain  Wink )

The 4th one down "home thoughts" was a song my father used to send my mum when he was away with the army.....and the 5th one down is being played during our wedding ceremony....I am a big fan of Tracy Chapman....

Transatlanticism by Death Cab for Cutie is a beautiful one. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qNqQC7R_Me4&feature=related

He repeats "I need you so much closer" 12 times, and yet sometimes it still didn't feel like enough. Here are the lyrics:

The Atlantic was born today and I'll tell you how...
The clouds above opened up and let it out.

I was standing on the surface of a perforated sphere
When the water filled every hole.
And thousands upon thousands made an ocean,
Making islands where no island should go.
Oh no.

Those people were overjoyed; they took to their boats.
I thought it less like a lake and more like a moat.
The rhythm of my footsteps crossing flatlands to your door have been silenced forever more.
The distance is quite simply much too far for me to row
It seems farther than ever before
Oh no.

I need you so much closer [x8]

I need you so much closer [x4]
So come on, come on [x4]

Many songs helped me, but two come to mind right away:

Unchained Melody-Righteous Brothers (which is our song)
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=t-idDbIfGvw

Landslide- Fleetwood Mac
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=W3cGxlZjMWU

Landslide is more cathartic than anything.  Really, I can't listen to that song without crying.  It's funny because neither of them are really my usual taste in music.

My favourite broken heart song is
