I always recommend Ghana. I am not sure what flight prices are like these days but once you get there it's pretty cheap and always HOT. You get about a million cedis to the £. Seriously!  Lovely beaches, and interesting cultural things to see and do.  Food is delicious and cheap and the people are friendly.  I've been there twice and would love to go again some day.

That sounds amazing. I hope to do Voluntary Services Overseas to as many places as I can during retirement years and that sounds like a good place to start.

That sounds fantastic!

I was actually going to suggest staying in the UK for your holiday, mspotts, especially if money is an issue. There are some amazing places to go here!  :)

It depends on what sort of holiday you and your family want to have. Beach? Countryside? Walking? City? Culture? Shopping?

I'm a beach person, so I'd always recommend Pembrokeshire or Cornwall ... but then I'm a bit partial to both those places.  :)

obviously depends what your after. Isle of Wight is good but Ventnor and Sandown get v.busy - Bembridge is nice, very chilled, dog friendly beaches and everything you need. Lots to explore on the island and of course in Portsmouth from where you can get the ferry over.

Obviously the SW is good but will be crowded (http://www.masonsarms.co.uk/) is another favourite of mine if you want good beer, food, quiet beach and not much else.

Other suggestions would be Wales, Pembrokeshire coast is great and Wales always seems so less crowded than England.

Hire a narrowboat and do the Norfolk Broads?

A driving holiday in the Irish republic?

Another interesting option is of course the channel islands of Jersey and Guernsey!

I haven't had cause to go up North or to Scotland much but no doubt there are some fab places up there that other posters can reccomend.

 :)

We're going back to West Clare, Ireland--where we met two summers ago!

I'd love to check out some of the places you guys are going at some point, too.  Turkey, Spain, Greece, Egypt.

I love the ancient stuff--so I'd love to see the mummies in the museum in Egypt and the pyramids, of course!  I'd love to see the ancient Greek temples and Turkey sounds so exotic to me.  Also, I have always wanted to see Pompeii....and yes--going back to West Clare *is* romantic!  [smiley=love.gif]

Good choice, we went there last year and loved it.  The people made it for me more than the sights and the weather.  I'm sure you'll have a great time.
