DH makes ice cream without a machine.  You just have to take it out of the freezer & stir it every so often while it's in the process of freezing.  A gadget would be nice, but as he makes decent stuff without one - one less thing to clutter up our cupboards with! :)

I have a friend who does that and makes some very nice ice cream! But it's really really hard to get all the crystals out when you're stirring by hand. The machine-made stuff is so much smoother!

I don't think i've ever had homemade ice cream before. Is it really better than, say Haagen Daaz or Ben and Jerrys,..... going by the comments from the 2005 thread?

Yes. Undoubtedly, yes.
Another shameless promotion for www.mclevey.com, the best place on the internet to buy art.

second pregnant lady chiming in to curse you all!!! >:( ;)

I'm really missing my Cuisinart ice cream freezer I had in the states.  I was single and still loved to use it.  I was the same as some others and didn't use it often for full ice-cream, but would use it to make a kind of sorbet that my mum taught me which was oh so simple.

I would put in raspberries and/or strawberries depending on what I found that looked good (frozen and fresh both work well), a bit of lemon juice, sugar or Splenda when I was good, and here's the different bit, a small container of buttermilk.  I'm telling you, the buttermilk and lemon gave it this gorgeous slightly creamy kick that was still pretty good for you.  I never made it for people without them raving and begging for the recipe.  Just blend it all up and throw in (or strain it if you want to get rid of seeds, which I liked to do sometimes). The whole thing took only a few minutes to prepare and was so much better than any store-bought stuff.

Thank you for that. I should've known there'd already be a thread on it somewhere here.. :)

If it's food, we've got a thread on it here!   ;D
