I have no idea what you guys are talking about. American lyrics?
'My Country Tis of Thee' has the same melody as 'God Save the Queen / King'.

Since I had that song drummed into me since I was very little (as most my age have) of course those are the words that go through my head.

Personally, whenever I see 'God Save the Queen' in print I think of the Sex Pistols Song.  ;)  [smiley=guitarist.gif]

I've never heard of 'My Country Tis of Thee' but like you, I think of the Sex Pistols Song.  ;D

Or being in grade school.

When DS thought he had a chance of a transfer to Newfoundland, I went around humming "Oh Canada" to myself -- but can never remember the words. Maybe just as well he discovered he wasn't eligible.

In my totally (un)professional survey 10 out of 10 Brits know absolutely none of the lyrics to God Save the Queen, apart from the refrain.

So I decided to have a bit of fun with DH's friends and teach them the lyrics "that I had to learn for my Life in the UK test".

Which is why now when Britain wins a gold you can hear some sing "...land where my fathers died, land of the pilgrim's pride..." ;D

I could teach you.  :D

But only the French version. The English version changed slightly while I was in primary school and I became confused.  :-\\\\

There are a few: English, French and bilingual (not official) and Inuktitut (unofficial).

Apparently, the lyrics have been under review for gender discrimination recently, but no change was made.

MLG  :)

French would be good -- only my understanding of Canadian French is pretty limited!  ;D
