On Facebook I can wipe people who's comments I don't enjoy from the face of the earth, so even though we have mutual friends and might make comments on other people's Facebooks/statuses etc, I NEVER have to see their stuff! WOO!

I really need to sit down and spend some time re-jigging my settings and stuff... I want to enjoy this same happiness!  ;D    (especially with the US elections coming  up..)

I really love that on Facebook you can wipe people from existence which you can't do on UKY, so on UKY they go on ignore but you can still see their posts when you reply and that they exist.

Absolutely. I call it my "smite" button. One click, and they are gone from the planet! ;)

Do you guys mean 'hiding' or 'de-friending'?

There are a few people (mostly people from the US, old high school / college friends) that I have hidden because I don't dislike them enough to unfriend them, but I don't need to see their posts as they are either annoying or we just don't have much in common anymore (or both).

Andee, I mean hiding.  It's usually relatives (or the odd coworker) that I need to keep as a "friend" for outside reasons (ie my mother will get all upset if I unfriend a cousin's cousin's cousin as they "are FAMILY"), but I don't want to listen to what they have to say.
I do go through and unfriend on a regular basis though, just to clear out people I don't see anymore or whatever.

I mean global block for people who aren't my friends!

Like there are some people I know from Forum or message boards and whatnot, and there are mutual people on the forum whom I can't stand, so I use global block on Facebook and their comments never show for me.  Even if they comment or like something on  a status they've posted on. It's BRILLIANT.

Yep, this I understand! :-)

Wow!  That's a bit beyond my level!  Can't say I dislike anyone quite that much at the moment, but it could come in handy in the future...

I really need to sit down and spend some time re-jigging my settings and stuff... I want to enjoy this same happiness!  ;D    (especially with the US elections coming  up..)

You need Social Fixer. It gets rid of all adverts plus you can filter out political posts (or anything else you'd like). It bases it all on keywords so it's not 100% perfect, but it should help you.

I also use UnBabyMe which is fabulous. It gets rid of those endless pictures of babies and replaces them with pictures either of kittens or of Harry Styles - both of which I enjoy. And the best part is that you get the words: BABY REMOVED. Bliss.

I hide a lot of people on FB as well. Some people are nice enough and I don't want to unfriend them, but they're dull as dishwater and I don't want to clutter my page with their monotonous posts. I only have one person blocked fully. I'm generally not capable of that much hatred - except when it comes to that one person.

I've never bothered hiding people on UKY  ... though there are a couple of potential candidates.  ;)

To be honest, I'm generally too shy to ask, but I would love to add some folks from UKY to my Facebook page. I haven't posted a ton here, and have only really interacted with a couple of people here regularly, but I read the forums daily and keep up with things. I tend to be writing all day, so by the time I start browsing the forums, I'm too done with writing to type meaningful responses to things. But I'm on Facebook throughout the day, and will post random thoughts there.

I don't tend to post anything on FB that's too private, so I don't worry too much about strangers. I do tend to vet my friend list regularly, though - I don't like to have so many it's hard to keep up with. I don't mind having friends I don't know well, or haven't met IRL, but I do prefer to keep my friends list to people I interact with, or can see myself interacting with.

Anyway, if anyone would be interested in adding me, just let me know! And if you're not, I completely understand that, too. :)

Oh my gosh!!  I've secretly wished for something like this and had loads of guilt around it.  And to think it replaces baby pics with KITTEN PICS!!

Don't feel guilty about it. I'm sure some of my friends have my political rantings blocked, so it all evens up in the end.  :)

My Facebook started out being just close friends, then at least people that I've met in person once before, and now there are a few exceptions to that - online pals from this website.  I've met a lot of UKY folks in person over the years, and some of them are my best mates.

So far, the only things I tend to block are games (Farmville, Cafe World, all that crap) & at least a couple people who were constantly all 'Praise the Lord' blah blah blah.  I don't mind seeing my friends' babies or my friends' kitties, but I could really do without all the random baby/kitty meme stuff that I find just gets to be boring & tiresome.  Not sure how to fix that without also fixing out the stuff I do want to see.

I haven't defriended much.  I think I did a bit of pruning of some who just never really interacted with me in the 2+ years I'd been on there.  And if there was someone that I really just couldn't stand, then they wouldn't be my Facebook friend - lol!

I'm not that active here on UKY these days - I tend to use FB more for my online socialising, and find it's great for organising get-togethers, small or medium size. I figure if anyone wants to 'friend' me - they'll find me or let me know. Since I'm not on here (UKY) that much, I figure most people who know me have already friended me (if they wanted to) on Facebook.  :)

Jennie, Ohmygod, that smite button almost killed me. How funny! But geez, I can't believe how many replies I got--yippee! Anywho, just to clarify--I have maybe 89 friends on FB (that was after I deleted a lot of them). Here's how I consider if or if not I will add someone. If they make an effort like, on here to talk more than just a few times, then I would probably consider that person. I just don't like when people ask for it out of the blue before trying to get to know me.

I'm not going to let someone (even friends of my friends on there) add me just to "creep" through my photos and posts. I did know about lists but I wasn't exactly sure how they worked, my brother showed me once--totally forgot how to do it. But I don't think that restricts anyone from seeing photos. On FB I have the highest privacy settings.. as you can get on a site like that. I'd like to add some people on here on there, but I really do have to get to know them first; my paranoia won't let me just add someone I don't know much about, lol. It's sad. Or smart... one of the two.

It is your Facebook and you can add or not add whoever you like! Maybe talk to them more and then you can add them! Try a meet up if you are in the same area and invite other expats :)
