According to the IRS, someone living overseas filing several years of delinquent returns may wish to use the streamlined process to deliver the paperwork to the IRS at the lowest risk.
Thanks guya, but too late now, I guess.  I definitely don't owe anything so it won't be too much of a risk.

Glad you got everything sorted Andee! Also, we are so glad our article was helpful :D

Pickled Sakura- As far as the FBAR filing, yes, it is due on June 30th and since it is e-filed, you can file anytime before then and it will be submitted instantly. If you would like some help filing the FBAR's under the new system, this article is a great resource:

I hope this helps!

FBAR complete!  I'm filing for the first time, so am hoping I've done everything correctly...I left Parts IV and V blank, as there are no additional foreign accounts where I have signature authority, and don't think I was filing a consolidated report...

Thank you for sharing the link greenbacktax. To me, the FBAR was far easier/less stressful than filing taxes. Loved the automatic confirmation received onine after uploading the file. Maybe the IRS can learn a thing or two from the Treasury ;)

You are lucky. You can use a computer, live in a country where computers and broadband access are widespread and which has the rule of law. Not all US persons living overseas can use computers or if they can they may not have one at home.  I know many people who simply cannot complete the new version of the FBAR at all, so need help with it.

I've got to do mine, probably tomorrow.  Hope I find it as easy as you did, PickledSakura.  I've only got the one account as well.

Yeah, I was thinking that a lot of elderly (and not so elderly) just are not computer savvy or don't have broadband, etc.

FBAR all done and e-filed!

Considering the money was in our account for less than a day (before it went out to pay bills) it was a giant pain in the patootie.
