I think most people who apply for Peace Corps expect the no running water, no electricity living situation. That was not what I ended up with. Albania, at least when I served, is definitely "Posh Corps." We had mobile phones, access to internet, running water. My main hardship was that we had water hours, so I could only shower and wash dishes etc. at certain times of the day. I was even able to get DSL internet in my flat about 9 months before I COS'd. It was still an incredibly challenging, fascinating, and rewarding experience.
