He can choose to show either the last financial year (which right now is 2015-2016 or he could wait until he has 2016-2017).  Or he could use the average of the last two years (which could be either 2014-2016 or he could wait and use 2015-2017).  In other words, several options to be able to get him over the threshold.

Ok good to know. I just sent this information to him. I cant thank you enough for all your help. As soon as I know I will let you know the numbers

Just remember the magic number is the TAXABLE income - not his gross takings.  That has caught more than one person out.

I have a question related to this. My husband's employer pays on the 15th of every month, but his bank's statment periods start at the 25th of each month, so always 6 months of statements will only show 5 payments from the employer. Because that doesn't show his nearest payment from his employer he got 6 months of transactions as well from the bank.

He thinks I should send the statements and the transactions, I think I should just send the transactions. What do you think? His sponsor letter lists it as 6 months of statements only, but I could reword my covering letter appropriately.
2008 -- Tier 4 (General)
2014 -- Tier 2 (General)
2017 -- Spouse
2019 -- FLR (M)
2021 -- SET(LR)
2025 -- pending citizenship ceremony...

The requirement is to have six months of payslips AND six months of bank statements (that also shows all six deposits).  So he'll need to submit 7 bank statements to cover the full period.

I'm sorry to hear that.

Maybe for this year, he can look at NOT taking all the allowed tax deductions.  That way his taxable income is higher, allowing him to be able to sponsor you.  Know what I mean?

Regarding bank statements for the spousal visa, is it detrimental to highlight the relevant transactions (i.e., monthly salary deposit) or should I leave them untouched?

I wouldn't highlight, they know what they are looking for.  :)
