Um, no one actually asked for an attorney's advise.  I think it's more of a vent/request for support.  Nothing wrong with that.

But I'm sure she appreciates your support, thanks.   :)

I have read this situation and I can say is that you need to speak to an attorney and not one that would find on line....and it needs to be an attorney that is close to the jurisdiction where your daughter is.

I am trying to be supportive, but I am sure that when you moved over here you knew that it would be hard to take care of this from 4,000+ miles away?

>edited by Mindy to remove less than helpful comments and to add that some people should try walking a mile in someone else's shoes before they make judgements.  <  <~~~~unreasonable edit by moderator, akin to censorship

I do hope you can find the answers to your questions.

edited by JACKY to say that I think Mindy is being unreasonable AGAIN to editing posts!!!! I still don't agree with someone leaving their kids for any reason..period....no shoes on this earth would make me change my mind!![/i]

As I said, I didn't read through the start of the thread, so didn't realise that it was not soliciting opinions; it was the few posts at the end that caught my eye.  Sorry for that.   Thanks for the moderator clarification  :)

I was not being argumentative.  I was responding to your inquiry about "why" I bother to post.
Love your life, poor as it is. You may perhaps have some pleasant, thrilling, glorious hours, even in a poorhouse. The setting sun is reflected from the windows of the almshouse as brightly as from the rich man’s abode; the snow melts before its doors as early in the spring. Cultivate property like a garden herb, like sage. Do not trouble yourself much to get new things, whether clothes or friends. Turn the old; return to them. Things do not change; we change. Sell your clothes and keep your thoughts…

ok, I've been a bit on the quiet side, and I have sorta been eying things and I gotta say a few things.....none offensive or argumentative just that....
OK yeah I understand how you can't understand a person leaving their kids behind as being a good thing, but in fairness although I now live in a different country, I still maintain contact, my daughter knows i love her no less than I did when I lived there, she is assured that she will still be able to see me, I was on visitation before, I'm on visitation now, there isn't more or less time spent really, so I'm not really missing out on hugs etc, simply because the amount of time I see her and talk to her now, is equivalent to the amount of time I saw her when I was still in the US.
Last thing i have to say is, if it were a choice between staying in the states without the man I love and my children seeing me miserable, and therefore, (because those of us who are parents know our actions and feelings also affect our children) making my kids miserable, or moving to the UK and showing my children that there is happiness and that sometimes you have to work for it, and ALSO that no amount of distance will make me love them less, then by god, I see no problem with it at all.....
Believe me it did play on my mind and heart strings for the longest time, but when my 10 year old came up to me and said "mom you love him, everything will be alright, we are a family", I opened my eyes! That's pretty heavy for a ten year old to be saying too mind you, but I have to have one of the brightest ten year olds imaginable LOL.
So really, you may never be able to agree with my decision, whether in my shoes or not, tho I don't wish anyone in my shoes because it has been hard, your opinion can only be taken at face value due to the fact that, well, you haven't been in my shoes.  ;)

Sigh.  Some people seem to have an agenda here that has nothing to do with the origional post.  Against my wishes I will now have to lock this thread.  If anyone has any words of wisdom for aacchoo please pm her or pm me and I can open the thread up for you.  Thanks.  And sorry to loyal Parenting board members.  I'm not sure what's going on here, but hopefully people will get bored soon and go play somewhere else.
