I guess I'm more task than time-oriented.  If I have a list in my head of things to do and they manage to get done, then I'm content with rest of my life being more freeform.  That said, adjusting to both kids starting primary this year was quite something.  We're still fairly resentful about how early we get up and have a good-natured piss and moan about it while cuddling under the covers for a few minutes every morning. :)

We're big routine people. We don't do our routines around a clock really, but more in the way that this follows this and this follows this - - it gives Philip consistency and it has taught me from VERY early on to recognize the difference between his hungry yells and tired yells etc, as we both knew what was coming next. We're not psychotic about it, and we are flexible (SO NOT Gina Ford) - - but we are following most of the principles from the Baby Whisperer book. Like with every book you have to read it, decide what you want to do and what youthink is crap - but there were only a few things about that book that I thought were crap. We followed the EASY routine when he was first born (Meaning Eat, Activity, and Sleep - in other words there is a gap, even if only a minute or two, between eating and sleeping so they don't learn to need a bottle/breast to sleep) - - and it worked a CHARM for us. Philip has slept through the night since very early on, and loves LOVES a routine. I don't run my life around it, it isn't the end of the world when we "mess it up"... but still. We stick with it for the most part and if it is nap time and he is tired he will go to bed and fall asleep in his crib on his own. Same time every day though, give or take a wee bit.

Right now:
6:00 wake up
6:30 breakfast
8:00 nap #1
11:00 lunch
12:00 nap #2
3:00 dinner
5:00 dinner #2 (small, usually just bottle)
6:00 bed
Sleeps 12 hours a night.

With exceptions, like now, when the house is in turmoil, all 3 of us have colds, and everyone is sleeping on the floor.  ::)

Am I rambling enough? ;D
I'm done moving. Unrepatriated back to the UK, here for good!

I just have to share this with everyone. Ethan slept from 6.30pm last night to 7.30am this morning !!! I still woke up at 5.30 cause my body clock's so stuffed up now but he carried on sleeping like an angel. And he had another nap from about 9 and has only just woken up again now!! I hope this keeps up!

My daughter (20 months) was a fantastic sleeper until we went away for Christmas.  We were gone for 4 days and now bedtime is a nightmare.  We have tried the controlled crying, but she has made herself vomit on a few occasions so I am a bit weary of that now.  She will go down for naps wide awake without a peep.  I bought her a nightlight and we are using it without much of a difference noted.  Any suggestions?  I think she may be starting to get last set of molars, so we are using nurofen and last night was a bit better than any over the last week, but still not great. :(

Kathleen, when is her bedtime?  We don't put our daughter down till 8, and she zonks out most of the time.  But we went to Aberdeen for a bit when my parents came back in October, and it threw her off kilter for a week.

I spray her cot with a little lavendar water, which seems to help.

It could very well be her molars, cuz they've been causing Aillidh to shriek s/times for up to an hour before falling asleep.  And yes, she's cried till she's made herself sick as well, so I feel your pain  :(.
