Confused about ILR Timing
« on: July 04, 2022, 04:11:53 PM »
I'm a little confused about when I'm supposed to apply for ILR. When I applied for the FLR submission/decision everything was closed and I had an extension of several months due to the COVID pandemic.

Am I still able based on the originally anticipated timeline (5 years), or do I have to wait and align with the expiration date on my current BRP?

Details here:
I entered the country 18th October 2017.
My FLR decision was BRP was issued 6th November 2020
My BRP says it is valid until 3rd June 2023

You are eligible to apply for ILR 28 days before you reach 5 years in the UK.

You will reach 5 years on 18th October 2022, so you can apply for ILR at any time between 20th September 2022 and 3rd June 2023.

The only consequence of the Covid extension is that it gives you an even bigger window in which to apply for ILR, so if for some reason you can’t meet the requirements, or haven’t taken the Life in the UK test, or can’t afford to apply in September 2022, you have until 3rd June 2023 to get everything sorted out .

Thank you! This is great news. I still plan on applying on the early side, but it takes a bit of pressure off!

Glad you asked, I was wondering the same as I ended up in that huge FLR backlog too. (Arrived October 2017 to pick up BRP and then fully relocated in December of that year, so I think we will be applying nearer Xmas just to be safe.)
