Citizenship Application after ILR
« on: May 04, 2023, 04:34:16 PM »
Hi all,

I received ILR today. Whew! My spouse and I (and the dog) are so happy!

I'm planning to apply for citizenship and have seen the list of requirements but haven't found the documentation needed for self-employment. Is there a list of what I need to provide?

Also, does ILR allow me to work in the Republic of Ireland? I thought it might because of the CTA guidelines. I know I couldn't before when I had a UK spouse visa, because I needed a work visa from the Republic of Ireland.

Thanks for the help!

Cheers,
Julie

There isn't any work requirement to be able to apply for naturalisation.

No. You will need to be a British citizen to be allowed to live and work in the RoI without a work visa.

Visas and residency

UK nationals do not need a visa or residency permit to live, work or study in Ireland. Within the Common Travel Area (CTA), British and Irish citizens can live and work freely in each other’s countries and travel freely between them.

I gave the incorrect link for citizenship and have corrected it in my post above.

This is the link for applying for citizenship as a spouse of a British citizen.

Congrats on the ILR. That marked the end of your immigration route.

Congratulations!  :D

They are big on the good character requirement for citizenship. Sometimes people who are self employed include their tax returns just to prove their affairs are in good standing and everything is above board.

I'll include tax returns if that's helpful. Thanks for all your support over the years, larrabee!
