Citizenship > ceremony > passport

Hi,

So I had my citizenship biometrics appointment on July 19th and have been mostly patiently waiting for a decision.  I know it can take a while and I probably have many weeks (possibly months) to go before I hear something.  But just thinking ahead for a minute...

Once I (presumably) get approved, I'll have to do my ceremony, correct?  How long does it typically take between approval and being able to attend a ceremony?  And another question - is it possible to apply for my UK passport before the ceremony?  Or is it not official until the ceremony and therefore applying for a passport isn't possible?

It's still the same as you were told in July: with links in your thread to the government site. No new laws have come in to change this.

It can take up to 6 months before you get your invitation from the Home Office and some take longer. Some get their letter quickly. You must book your ceremony within 3 months.

You won't be a British citizen until you have attended your ceremony and made an oath of allegiance and a pledge and you are then given your certificate.

Then you can apply for a British citizen passport: which is another wait.

Just by way of contributing to the citizenship approval timeline - I submitted my application followed by citizenship biometrics on June 6. So I've passed the 3-month mark and haven't heard yet. I know every case is different and that it can take 6 months +

There is one other step.  I took it out of my own quote above; from a previous thread of lvjeremylv;  because it didn't seem relevant to the questions he was asking on this thread.

You need to return your BRP within 5 days

"After you get your certificate

You must send your biometric residence permit (BRP) back to the Home Office within 5 working days of getting your certificate of British citizenship."

My sister in law got her husband's spousal visa in 6 weeks, but did biometrics mid June. I have a feeling that things have slowed down in the summer....people are probably on holidays so there will be less staff.

If we travel before approval, so we have to submit a change of circumstances form to say we've taken a trip?
