E Visa
« on: May 15, 2024, 04:38:15 PM »
I actually don’t like this whole E Visa. How do I know it was actually linked to my US passport? How do you prove who you are?  Any help would be appreciated.

Do you mean the eVisa that will be replacing BRP cards in 2025?

If so, you can read up about how it will work and how you will be able to access the eVisa here:

https://www.gov.uk/guidance/online-immigration-status-evisa#how-will-i-use-my-ukvi-account

At some point this year, before your current BRP expires, you will be contacted by UKVI with information about how to set up your account and access your eVisa.

I am not much of a fan at the moment either.  In particular, because I don't currently have a valid driving licence, I don't like the loss of a compact, government-issued ID (BRP).

Still, I was contacted via email to apply for the eVisa, as I have a BRP with ILR, about 5 weeks ago.  The process was a little finicky, but workable.  It appears to have gone through ok.

What's unclear at the moment is what to do about the rest of my family, who each also have ILR as dependants on my application.  As far as I'm aware, my email address is the only one associated with that application.  One might have expected to be able to process the rest of the group at about the same time.  However, I have not been able to do so when I have tried to follow the same instructions for them (ending at a point, after having successfully created an account for them, where the system notes that no application is pending for the individual).  I suppose I will wait for further emails to process the others individually, but more clarity about what to expect would be appreciated.

I got the email this week. I've managed to login with my BRP info quite seamlessly this morning, but that's all. There's nothing for me to set up my eVisa and when I downloaded the app I don't have any of the info (QR/Connection code) to begin using it.

Now, my BRP doesn't expire until the end of the year so perhaps that's why? But it seems silly to ask me to set up an account more than six months in advance.

My wife got the email about registering for an eVisa and we've just spent an hour going around in circles on the Gov website. I thought I would register by BRP card (you get a choice of BRP or Passport) but when using the UK Immigration: ID Check app to scan details, as well as front and back of the BRP card it asks to scan the chip, which isn't there. We try to scan the passport and do a selfie but then we land back on the Gov site asking us to sign in again and to again take photos. After about 6 tries we seemed to have locked ourselves out and have to try again tomorrow.

Do the latest BRP cards have an actual physical chip? There's none on the back and on the front above my wife's photo is an image of a chip. Is that it? Scanning around that part did not recognise anything.

M.

I think we found the chip is on the back but invisible. Thanks UKVI. However, we're still going around in circles, returning to the 'Link your eVisa' page and having to Confirm Identity again. I think we've been here around 10 times. But I think we're also locked out for 24 hours. This is super frustrating for something that should be so simple.

We got our eVisa sorted the next day. So in hindsight the only issue was locating the actual BRP chip (invisible on the rear of the card)

Hi all,

It took a bit of running around like mentioned above, but the E-visa process was relatively simple. I logged in via the link they sent, linked my BRP (I have ILR, so it may be very different for those still in the process), by taking a photo of the front and back and linking my chip by placing my phone on top. Then, it scanned my face. I'd recommend a white or neutral wall for this as it failed to pick up my face several times at first. Then, I had to get my husband to take some passport-like photos of me. It accepted all of this, then I logged back in on my PC and checked the information, provided which email and phone number I would prefer they use, then answered security questions. Now, it's saying they'll be back in touch so I can view my e-visa. It's all very annoying and I was very excited to receive my BRP only for it to be come invalid by the end of this year. Hope everyone gets it sorted! Good luck!

I got my last BRP back in 2019 and I am still waiting for my email. And it is driving me absolutely mental waiting. I just want to get it done. Anyone able to say who the email is coming from? It's been so long I cannot remember what email I actually used anymore...

My email came from DoNotReply eVisa Direct Mail.  It arrived on May 1.

Cool, thanks! I saw people were getting them on Facebook but no one has mentioned who was sending them. :D

They are having to stagger these emails due to the huge numbers involved. I've no idea how they are deciding on the order and there doesn't seem to be anything in the link from ksand above.

Let the early ones iron out any kinks. ;)

Thanks, Sirius. Great to see you! I know there are so many. I just have had so much going on already this year, I just want to get this done. 2024 has not been kind.

Hi Lyonaria. It's great to see you too.

I wondered where you were. I miss reading your posts. I'm so sorry to read that it has not been a good year for you.

Aw, thanks. I've been wondering what everyone is up to. I've not been super on on socials really with social media being my job. I've been more on reddit for succulents, knitting and fountain pens. haha. It's been tough with my health. Turns out something I've had all my life is actually a bit more serious than we knew and high stress, too long of a commute and poor mental health make it SO much worse. Oh the joy.  ::) I should set up a catch up post....
