Son #1 had gastroenteritis when was under a year old.  He did end up hospitalised and on IV fluids because he lost weight due to diarrhea.

After they were satisfied the infection was under control, they sent him home on Pedialyte and liquid Jello, then onto a special formula (can't remember the name now, but the bloody thing was like $5 for a very small can equivalent to two bottles).

After that, I've always been careful with little ones and diarrhea.  If it appears to last more than a few hours (in other words, more than just a quirk), I always try to get them to take Pedialyte.

Sorry to hear about your little boy's illness. Its very frustrating when they're that little and helpless! 7 months is my favourite age for a baby - they're so lovely and gurgly...yet not walking, which is an infinite joy :D

Is Pedialyte what we call Dioralyte in the UK? Incidentally, when I had a 2 year old with sickness and diarrhoea and couldn't get him to swallow Dioralyte (flavoured or plain), my GP said that a mug of apple juice with a pinch of salt was the next best substitute. I did manage to get him to sip that.

Yes, it's very similar, but Pedialyte comes pre-made in the US.  I haven't seen it in sachets like Dioralyte.

Munchie

My DH had this same thig when we were in Puerto Rico and the States a few weeks ago!  He had to go to the hospital for an iv because nothing was staying in him!!!!  I heard from a lot of my friends that they had something similiar, so I'm thinking it must be a bug.  I'm hoping he is feeling better!  Poor thing!  I'd say get him some Pedialyte for sure!
