I am a US Citizen who has lived, studied then worked in the UK (legal resident, not citizen) since late 1999, having previously worked full-time in the US for many years, and now I want to retire. As most in my situation, I have several puzzle pieces – both in the UK and the US – I need to figure out. I need advice and thinking by someone who is well versed in US and UK law – especially tax law but it may skew into law governing investments (not actual investment advice, more what is and isn’t allowed) and immigration (where is best to base myself legally, for best tax advantage US or UK, and what it will mean in terms of time spent, filing returns, etc.)
Of course, I will pay for the consultation but finding someone who can do it effectively and efficiently is an issue because I’m not ‘high net worth’, which seems to be the demographic where such advice is available. I suspect it’s a one-hour conversation with perhaps some pre-work and post work, effectively around 4-5 hours total billable. This would suit my budget, but I fear a quality advisor wouldn’t be interested in me as a short-term client – or would only do so at a price out of my reach.
Anyone have thoughts/advice/recommendations?
