Wisdom tooth removal
« on: January 18, 2005, 07:58:07 PM »
Right now I am in so much pain :\\\'(. My wisdom tooth is coming out. I haven't had a proper nights sleep in days , I am hungry and I can't eat anything unless I can suck it up through a straw. The side of my face is swollen and I can't talk. I've been to the dentist and he's reffered me to a surgery to have the tooth removed as there is no room for this wisdom tooth and it's slightly infected. Has anyone here had any dentistry work done here? How was the surgery? hubby had work done on his teeth when he was little and it still bothers him to this day so I kinda panicing  :-[ is this going to cost me a fortune as he didn't tell me nor do I qualify for any exemption ..unless hubby quickly knocks me up before next week ;)

So sorry to hear your in pain.
I had tons of dental work done here. Mostly cosmetic but I had to have tons of fillings and cleanings.
With the fillings as well as all the cosmetic work I had lots of novacaine. In fact I always ask for extra. I havent had any side effects, problems or pain afterwards. My friend recently had two of her wisdom teeth out and they gave her sedation because she was so nervous. She did just fine and she is so glad its over with.
I got my work done for free on the NHS because I was on a maternity certificate.
I hope you can have it taken care of soon.

I had mine done in the US and aside from having to look like a Chipmunk for a few days it was not that bad.... they took all four out at one time... It did hurt afterwarda a bit and mine were impacted at the time..

and the Dentists had a great laugh as they gave me an IV with some strange Valium type sedative in it and I guess I spent the entire surgury humming and singing Christmas carols....  all I remember was being asked to count backwards from 100 and making it to about 89 and them telling me it was like valium and then being helped to the car by my dad and a nurse...

Hi Alicia, try and shop around some NHS dentists to see how much they charge ... the costs can vary considerably. My husband had an emergency wisdom tooth extraction done in 2002 while we were on holiday in Scotland and it only cost £10 (and this was before he was living here).  You should also be able to get a wisdom tooth extraction done at an NHS hospital which shouldn't cost you a penny - I know this because a work colleague had it done this way, but I'm not sure how she arranged it.
