Places to live...tell me about......
« on: January 20, 2005, 12:48:27 AM »
...where you live.

We've got the luxury of choosing where we go.  (Really it needs to be within commuting distance of London).  We're very interested in Virginia Water, Egham and that general vacinity.  Also very interested in Richmond.

So give it to me straight, what do you like about where you're at, don't like, would you prefer somewhere else, etc.

Nothing good ever comes from a bad attitude.

I have a friend who commutes to NW London every day from Richmond (though she drives)...she loves living in Richmond...very green, lovely community...feels ages away from London at times but easy access here to.
Hope you get some good info!

I live in northwest London (West Hampstead, zone 2).  It has a lot of cafes and restaurants on the high street and most of the residents living here are young professionals (singles and couples).  It is very convenient to central London (15 min by tube) and to the City (financial area, 25 min by tube).  I enjoy living here and would recommend it to others.

It really depends on what part of London you want to live in for determining rent.

I live in N London and pay too much for a 1 bedroom.  lol

I have an 90lb dog but he's in CA for the time being.  I saw a man yesterday walking down Seven Sisters Road with a mastiff that was probably 100 lbs.  In London, good luck finding a place where you can have a big dog, or any dog at all.  My building won't allow pets so my dog will be in CA until my lease expires and find a new place to live or I go back to the US.
Love your life, poor as it is. You may perhaps have some pleasant, thrilling, glorious hours, even in a poorhouse. The setting sun is reflected from the windows of the almshouse as brightly as from the rich man’s abode; the snow melts before its doors as early in the spring. Cultivate property like a garden herb, like sage. Do not trouble yourself much to get new things, whether clothes or friends. Turn the old; return to them. Things do not change; we change. Sell your clothes and keep your thoughts…

another important variable is where you will be commuting too. my husband works in canary wharf. we lived in westminster for a few years.  now we have escaped to Kent, to a beautiful little village which we love. it is definitely a proper village and not a suburb. we have a 5 bedroom house with an acre yard. the schools are all british; and commuting to international / american schools would take toooooo long, though.  our kids are very young so it doesn't matter to us.

good luck.
