Girls' school uniforms?

Just out of curiosity
Are girls allowed to wear pants ( trousers ) as part of theyr school uniforms or just skirts? And what do your children think about uniforms?

I am an italian living in california and considering moving to the UK. I personally like the idea of uniforms but I remember hating wearing skirts as a child.

It depends on the school. At my old school trousers were not allowed "in my day" (except on religious grounds) but I believe they have changed the rules now.

When I was in high school in Scotland, we were allowed to wear trousers on Fridays.  The rest of the week we were expected to wear skirts.  I must say, though, it really wasn't a huge problem.  I don't know if any of you are familiar with Penicuik, but it can get COLD there.  Long skirt and woolly tights, though, and I was toasty warm....

Yeah I think so. I grew up at a catholic school and we had these red, black and white uniforms. As we all wore them it wasn't a problem. With the things my daughters 3rd grade class wears I would be happy for uniforms, they look like little sluts!

At my children's state primary school, they could wear matching jogging tops and bottoms in the school colours, or plain black trousers. At their high school, the girls can wea rblack trousers of any design, as long as they are plain (ie not cargos or anything with lots of zips or decorations).

Here most the schools allow them to wear trousers and they aren't too bad---however; my daughter attends a catholic school and no trousers at all are allowed-- she isn't thrilled about it but has adjusted

I have all boys but the girls at my sons school are able to wear pinafores (Jumpers to Americans) or trousers. In the Springtime they wear the checked dresses that look like scrub women clothes. Im speaking of primary school age kids by the way.

My sons dont mind uniforms at all because its all they have ever known. They were younger than school age when we moved here.

WE had a tsunami fund raising day at my school on Friday and kids were allowed to wear their own clothes if they donated. I couldn't believe how much cockier and grownup they looked in their street clothes and the head told me that the truancy rate quadruples on these days.....Sure enough, I saw the outside of her door chock a block with gobby teenagers all day....

The girls at my elder son's secondary school are allowed to wear trousers, but quite frankly most of them opt for the skirts anyway - and as short as possible.
