1st birthday gifts
« on: March 07, 2005, 02:14:22 PM »
Philip's first birthday is around the corner (  :o ) and we haven't bought him his gift yet. We're thinking of getting something to help him with his walking (he cruises now) like a little car he can either sit on or walk behind. What did you guys do for your child's first birthday - what was a hit and what wasn't? We aren't the kind of people to go overboard - he'll probably only get one present, maybe two (I really want to get him a set of Little People!) - so we'd like to make it a good one, y'know?

I'm done moving. Unrepatriated back to the UK, here for good!

My son still adores the Winnie the Pooh car his grandparents got him.  Blocks are something that would get years of use out of them.

I am a Little People addict.  I had to buy the Noah's Ark with all the animals when we were in the States.  In fact my children just received Little People gifts for Christmas.  My husband point blank refused letting me get the castle as well.  They are just SOOOOOOOOOOOO cute!

This is officially the best toy for toddlers. But I don't think you can get them in the states, though.   :(

Riding toys are good-and sometimes you can get push along riding toys.  I think it's best to go for the simplest-one he can touch the floor and push his feet.

this is similar to the ones my kids had.

We bought the Stride-to-Ride walker by Fisher Price (link below) and it was love at first sight.  He loved walking up and down the hallway with it, and now it's set for riding so he can scoot all over the house.  Granted, it does play music, but it has an off switch which is nice.  You can pick it up at any Toys R Us.

Our son loves it.  Some of his friends have one, and whenever we go for a playgroup he makes a beeline for it!

The old ones are the best I had one of those when I was a toddler.  You must be able to  get them in the US!?!

I saw a really cute ladybird walker/rider thing somewhere, when I remember where I'll post the link.

Fantastic ideas guys, thanks! Mindy, that little wagon with blocks in it is EXACTLY what my friend Sarah has here - she and her family moved over with us (work for the same company as David) and she got hers at Mothercare.
