Witnessed an assault
« on: March 08, 2005, 08:01:16 PM »
Tonight I was on the phone and heard a dog barking and what sounded like a bottle being broken on the ground. Lots of yelling.  I looked out the window and saw three black teens/early 20s male hitting another black male who had on a yellow jacket.  The dog was attacking and lunging at the guy in the yellow.  One of the guys in black ran over with what I thought was a thick, squared board and hit the guy across the face/head with it.  The guy in yellow was trying to jump over the brick wall in front of the building across the street to get away from them and the dog.  He ran up to the door and  someone opened it finally and he went inside but the dog was still biting him.  One of the guys in black was trying to get his dog off of him and finally the dog let go.  They shut the door and the 3 guys ran away down the road.  I was on the phone with 999 police when they got the dog off him and started to run away.  When they hit him with the pipe, I called 999.  So the police took my statement and said someone would come and take my formal statement in a few days.  I'm the only credible witness to the whole thing other than the victim.  My neighbors only heard the screaming, the dog barking and saw the guy bleeding.  I saw them hit him.  I thought it was a board they hit him with but it was a piece of square pipe with a handle.  I showed the police where it was and it was covered in blood.  They took the pipe and his jacket with them.
I told the police I wasn't sure if I could ID them but I saw what they were wearing.  I guess if they catch the guys who did it, I'd have to try and ID them.

Sorry if I'm rambling... I needed to write all this down before I forget what happened.
Love your life, poor as it is. You may perhaps have some pleasant, thrilling, glorious hours, even in a poorhouse. The setting sun is reflected from the windows of the almshouse as brightly as from the rich man’s abode; the snow melts before its doors as early in the spring. Cultivate property like a garden herb, like sage. Do not trouble yourself much to get new things, whether clothes or friends. Turn the old; return to them. Things do not change; we change. Sell your clothes and keep your thoughts…

Oh, hon. I'm sorry you had to see that, that's terrible. Is the guy going to be okay?

That must have been so frightening.

There are two things in life for which we are never truly prepared:  twins.

They took him to hospital in an ambulance.  I don't know what'll happen to him.  He was walking but woozy on his feet.

It was scary to watch...

That is a terrible thing to witness.  It must have been frightening.  Hugs.   [smiley=hug.gif]

You should be proud of yourself for calling the police and reporting it.  Some people don't always have the strength because they either don't want to get involved or want to forget about it.

That's horrible. Hopefully the police will catch the perpetrators. Are there any CCTV cameras nearby that you know of?

None that I know of.  I hope the victim knows who those guys were because if it's all on me to ID them, I can't.

That's horrid.  I hope you are okay and are taking care of yourself.  If you ever need to talk - give me a call!

The DC just called and I'm going in to the police station tomorrow to make a statement.  I told him I was willing to go to court and testify.  I still don't think I can ID anyone but I can tell them what I saw.

I slept about 3 hours last night.  Ugh.

The DC came by my apartment today to go over where things happened and hear a bit about what I saw.  He said the victim was robbed and the people who did it were just random guys he didn't know.  The victim is ok but doesn't remember a whole lot about what happened to him so it's good that I came forward and saw as much as I did.

It bothers me that this attack came because of a robbery.  I mean, is someone's wallet really worth all that? They could've killed that guy.

How horrible for you.  That kind of thing can be so upsetting to see even if you know you are safe.

A guy that works where I do was beaten up in broad daylight in the town center last week.  He looks a bit like an old dosser but isn't, and some young guys just ran up to him and started attacking him for no reason.  Knocked all his teeth out and everything.  What is wrong with people.

Wow - that's incredible.  It always amazes me that people are capable of this (and much worse) violence.  Where did this happen?
