US passport photo in East Midlands??
« on: March 19, 2005, 09:40:58 AM »
Does anyone know of a place in the East Midlands (Leicester area) that will provide US passport photos for an infant?  We have an appt at the Embassy in April and need to get a photo.  (A five year passport for a 2 month old!!)

I looked on the previous consulate topic discussion and found a link to a website for passport photos, but it was a dead end.

Also, we are travelling by train ... does anyone have tips on whether we should take our baby stroller?  I don't want to take the tube, and some buses don't have room for strollers ...

Thanks
Theresa

Hi Mrs T - congrats on the new arrival! Can't help you with the photos but hopefully someone will know.

Getting around public tramsport in London is difficult with a pram. I haven't even tried to take mone on a bus yet although many of them do now have a special area for prams and also do that kneeling thing so you can get on and off. There is a lot more space on the tube but then you have to battle with stairs etc not many stations have lifts, but it's ok if there's someone with you who can help. Otherwise you might find a cab is the best option.

Don't know about the Midlands...but in Leeds, the main train station has a coin-op photo booth.  Would Leicester station perhaps have the same?  And could you hold the baby up for it, or something?  If not -- just ignore me.  I don't know nothin' 'bout babies.

Be very careful with US passport photos. I had my sons taken at one of those photo machines and they were denied. But right across from the US embassy there is a place that will do them for you on the spot. I paid £5.50 for each set.

Also, I have taken my umbrella stroller on the tube with no prob. I dont know how old your baby is but if you can put him/her in an umbrella stroller (do they still call them that?) then you wont have a problem especially if youre not travelling alone.

If I where you just wait till you get to London and have them taken at the pharmacy near the Embassy. It is literally five min away from the embassy. You will even pass it if you come to the embassy from Oxford St.

They are wounderful with baby photos.

Thanks for all the advice - I think we'll wait until we get to London to have the photos taken (at Gould's).  A cab sounds like the best form of transport for us ... our stroller is too big to take up and down stairs easily!

I'm looking forward to being in London again ...
