hello...
« on: July 26, 2003, 01:14:56 PM »
A friend has been nudging me to this site for a while, mostly post-rant, so I thought I'd say hello.

Hmm, what to say... I'm 32, born and raised in California, living in Surrey with my British husband and two American dogs, and have lived in the UK for two years. We're on the verge of buying our first house and the permanence of buying is a bit overwhelming (I guess this means San Francisco isn't home anymore...?).

The more time passes, the easier life over here gets, but I really do wish I could go a day without hearing "idiot American" jokes... *sigh*

At any rate, hello!

Welcome, Laurelei :)

Finding this website was a wonderful surprise for me- It was great to see that there is a really hefty support system out there for expats! You won't find a nicer group of people to correspond with.

Congrats on your impending house purchase! I know that really *is* a big step, but hopefully one that you and your husband will get much enjoyment out of!

Anyhoo- before I go all babblesome- Welcome! Look forward to reading more from you in the future  :)

Jen

Hi Laurelei, Welcome to UKY...  It is nice to have you join us...  I am sure you will find this place a great support system.

I am not in the UK yet...will be there later this year... but for the past year...UKY has made it much easier for me to prepare for my move.

Congrats on your new home...  I am sure you will enjoy...  try and think of things this way, San Fransico is only a flight away...  and was the first stepping stone towards your future.

take care

Thanks, you two, for the welcome. Meeting other people who know that living in the UK from America isn't as easy as simply arriving and getting on with it is a great comfort. I try to "just get on with it" as much as I can, but sometimes it gets a bit tiring to be the novelty act...

Just wanted to add my two cents in and say welcome Laurelie!  Glad that you decide to post..

I am glad your rants did not scare you off! ;D

I know how those "USA" jokes can wear thin after a while too.

I am still livingin the US of A and will be in the UK either by Spring 2004 or sometimes before October.  UK-Y has been a great resource not only for preparing for the move, but also for just having someone listen.

I too have the rambling potential so shall keep this short!

Welcome welcome welcome! :)

Hi Laurelei and welcome to UKY!  I just moved here to join my English fiance in mid-June so this is new to me.  Hope to see you on the boards a lot!

Oh.my.word! :) Laure-lei, Laure-lei - yay that you came over here! I've obviously been so crapola with keeping up to date with things here, but randomly decided to try and rectify my crapness today. And lo and behold...woohoo!! (now off to see how the rest of the board's been treatin' ya - and how funny all the mentions with needing to have any day out, as I was thinking just today that I needed to send an email out and see if we could coordinate dates)... ;D
